Stange windows issue
I'm running Windows Vista on a computer we've had for about a year.
Within the past week, all of the document files on my wife's user have stopped identifying as Microsoft Word Doc files. If she tried to open one from her documents folder it opens in the notepad. When viewed in the documents folder the little Microsoft Word icon for each file is not there. She can open them if she has Word open and uses file/open. On my user everything works as it should. This just started happening a week or two ago. She doesn't have admin rights on her user, so I can't see her having changed anything, but it is very strange that whenever she gets around anything electronic the device seems to develop problems. Any ideas on a fix? Thanks. |
windows vista is the anti-christ.

Something probably happened to the default save format or default open.

Have her right click on one of the documents and select "open with" and "chose program", when the next box comes up, select Word and put a check in the box that says "always use this program to open this type of file"

That worked. Thanks, Bob!

right click go to properties and change default application back to word. You probably installed some new software that changes some of the defaults. See if that works. If you have the admin rights on your user name then you can fix the problem. Go to your hard drive find her account name, go to the file and change the default applications.
