Thumbs up We got a check today for $494 from our power company!

For saving 24.6% over last year's electrical use. CL&P was doing a program for residential use where if you saved 25% they'd give you a rebate of 1 months savings, we didn't even know they would offer it to commercial businesses.

The only change we made was to switch from 10+yo flourescent fixtures to new, energy efficient ones. Everything else has remained the same.

They are also offering an audit program to replace electric drive motors with new, energy efficient ones, which we signed up for a couple months ago. There is the potential for some sizeable savings. We've got a couple mixing machines (one a 5hp and one a 3hp), 3 packaging machines (each 3 hp), the AC compressor (I'm guessing is at least 3 hp) and 20 heater blower motors (1/5 hp each) which are all at least 15 years old and some as old as 35. It should be interesting to see what they come up with once they do the audit for the motors. Apparently a lot of the new ones spool up to speed instead of being an instant surge.

If any of you have machine shops, larger buildings or sizeable warehouse space I'd highly recommend checking with your electrical provider to see if they offer energy audits. I mean, we're saving almost $6K per year just from changing fixtures (the cost of the fixtures will be paid off by the end of next year). And that goes right towards the bottom line.

Yes, but it's a privately held corporation so we've got 20 or so annoying family members that don't have anything to do with the business but still want their dividend check every Christmas. Besides, our corporate accountant chairs the Governor's oversight committee that was put in place after the Arthur Anderson fiasco. We gets away with nothin'!

Would it be wrong to use the money to buy a garage space heater, toaster oven or neon sigh that says "We Save Power"?
