new cadi CTS or E500 or S500 or someting else?

So my dad is on the market for a higher end car. top end price is $30k-$35k. Hes hugly considering the new cadilac CTS, very very sharp lookin car. compared to my 1994 E420 we test drove a 2005 E500 and S500 and they feel like hondas compared too the ol 420.lol So what should he get. The ride quality of the new MB really disapointed me and my dad so were looking for a new CTS but the next 3 "batches" of CTS's are allready spoken for. so gettin one of those is goin to be hard. but what would u all recomend? now i know this is a MB forum so please dont only suggest a MB. so yeah recomend any make and model but he wants NEW and the best ride quality and over all quality. So like a 1992 E500 is outa the question.....even though i would be super jelous if he got one....*my dream affordable car* but yeah go at it.lol

no on CTS!!!

Right before I quit working for the dealership, we started getting them in. In 2 the driveshafts were grinding on the underside of the car. The sunroof shade is like cheesecloth, and bad window seals develop horrible wind noise issues. The stereo HDD has problems too. He needs to wait on those, alot of bugs to be worked out.

They are great looking.

*edit* The Direct injection motors are also bad, light came on twice with 1 customer... not 1 of the 3 cts I sold were trouble free.

When the unveiled the car to us, we all went up to KC for a ride and drive. About 50 of them all together. About half had something wrong.

Another thread has this going:

I would recommend

Infiniti G class sedan... wowsa

Audi A4: Bang for the buck

New Mercedes C class: a quantum leap over the previous model, drive one and you'll see what I mean.

I still can't buy the Caddies new look.:undecided

I love the way they look. The CTS-V sounds like a blast, but hadn't heard about all the QC problems before.

rickg 02-15-2008 01:56 PM

Yeah, ya either love 'em, or hate 'em I think. Caddie obviously wanted to change their image from grandmas car, to a yuppie car. Or a gen-x car. Guess I'm getting old, cause I liked thier older styles.:wheelchair:

I like the current crop of Caddies way better than the older ones. Once they started playing Led Zepplin songs in their commercials they had my attention.

I like they way they look, but the interiors are still pretty cheap. They need a a few more years to keep bumping the quality up.

The CTSV is no where near the car the E63, RS6, or M5 is. Its cheaper though, and the resale is amazingly low.

I actualy like the CTSV, if I could get past the plastic fantastic interior it might work.

Considering Cadillac is running neck and neck with lexus in the JD Power scores, and consumer reports rates the 08 CTS as a best buy, I find that all hard to believe. Also, if you think the Mercedes, or any of the other german cars are going to be trouble free, your dead wrong.

The CTS looks more like an origami creation than any Asian car I can think of. I don't know if that's good or bad. It's definitely different, not necessarily better. I didn't drive it, but I sat in one at the dealer. It felt dainty - I don't think it's for big guys. As far as GM cars go, the Malibu seems like a more cohesive package, but it doesn't have many of the high-tech features.

My dad test drove a 2005 Acura RL with only 12k on the odo. That was a very nice ride. Firm suspension, fit and finish was excellent. All the bells and whistles. I was quite impressed.

The '08 Impala SS brought me back to the day in 1966 .... Ah.

Just my experience with them, I suppose the ride and drive cars were regualarly thrashed for 3 months before I got in one.

I liked them, minus the cheapo ultra view sunroof, we may have gotten a bad bunch.

1 of the three I sold was damaged in transit, so I guess that wouldn't count.

rickg 02-15-2008 11:07 PM

Not sure how much I trust JD Powers. They like to use that "initial quality" thing. Yeah, great. But how about at 50k miles? That's putting the money on the line, IMHO.

Hatterasguy 02-16-2008 12:25 AM

Bah German cars are so nice that fixing a few things here or their isn't a big deal.

Besides everything breaks, one of the agents 06 TL just puked up a pretty pricey computer, go warranty!:D
