2.3 supposed to start in 2nd gear??

Hello, i have a 1987 2.3 16 valve and was wondering if anyone knows if that specific model was supposed to start in 2nd gear?? i hear the 124's typically started in 2nd but i need to know if mine specifically does??? can anyone help?!?!?!? thanks!!!!

Stop, shift to 2nd and back to D, you should start in 1st now.

You should be able to feel the shifts and count them, or at least look at the tach to see the RPM drop.
