Met "The Rocket" today

You know who.... Roger Clemens.

He came to my store last year around this time for spring training. Well he was back.. All of the guys in grocery were not sure it was him, so myself and the frozen dept clerk walked up to him and asked if" need any help Mr. Clemens" and he was like "no, I'm good.."

So.. it was verified it was him. Last year he had longer hair and it was blonde(well i think it was).

Anyways I had to go back up front and bag for a little. I kept watch to where he was checking out.. So I moved over three registers.. I told the other baggers(as I moved). hey switch,or lemme go there I need to talk to the cashier.so I got to RC's checkout line and bagged his stuff( $500 later )

I took his stuff to his truck. We made small talk about news and the weather(no sports stuff.. like he needs to hear that).. He thanks me and shook my hand which had a $10 in it.. I thanked him and asked him politly if he could sign something for my little brother. He replied" sure no problem".. So I got my little bro an autograph. He said he will be back in a few days with some stuff and have the rest of the team sign it and might even bring some of the other guys (I hope I'm there)...

The store manager had asked him to sign some things as well since the Lakeland area GM is a big baseball fan..

It was pretty cool meeting him again. He did remember me from last year as well and said I'm doing a good job.

I meet all the coolest people at my job.

edit the part about the $ You don't wanna get busted by your employer

It's nice to hear a prominent sports figure being nice to the normal salaried people.!

I was going to say, Maurice Richard is dead, but I can see you don't mean him.

heh..

who cares

Mr. George would have told me to take it... the un-spoken rule is.. "If the customer seems offended or insist you take it or if you say "no thank you" three times, and it still doesn't work.. Its ok to accept it."

Largest tip I ever got while being a bagger was a Tee Time at the golf course at Reunion... its some ritzy vacation home place with full time residents as well.. I think the tee time card was worth $200 ish... I gave it to a friend that wanted to golf at Reunion since I was sans clubs

Ok I will say it... Did he buy any 'juice'?

Seriously, it is great to hear that he is a down to earth kind of guy who thinks about the normal people in the world. I kind of expected him to be a diva or whatever the male equivalent of diva is. Good to know I am wrong.
