More Korean Luxury in a half Mercedes

http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200802/200802280019.html

This is the latest version of "The Chairman" by SsangYong. In case anyone is wondering why, Korea heavily taxes imported automobiles, usually to the tune of 80-100% of the cost of the car, so Mercedes selling engines and transmissions to Ssangyong is probably the easiest way of selling at least parts of their cars in Korea. The previous version also based on the w124 platform.

So if the present model is the Chairman W. and the previous model was based on the W124. Does that mean that they had a W123 model called the Chairman H.W. ??

I guess that's why you see so many people riding bicycles in that part of the world. I can't imagine that. 80-100% sales tax would certainly go a long way towards ending consummerism . . .
