My understanding is that you can get a 250K badge for the the C or K Series only, not the S-Series.

Chevy isn't making the S-10 anymore...celebrating high mileage in a series you canceled sorta' goes against the rules of auto marketing...

"Hey! Everyone! Look over here! Let's give 3 cheers to a product we don't believe in anymore!"

Nah...doesn't work for me, either...

I could see if they'd make an exception...but I guess it would be like putting a 250K badge on a Volkswagen bug (the old style)...

Maybe, when I get this thing up to 500K...most of the S-10s I see on the road now are pretty much 4-wheels-of-rolling-rust and a badge would be the only solid piece of metal on the thing...

Oh well...this is the first vehicle I've had to last this long under my foot...I've finally calmed down enough (in my "old" age) to keep from ramming into something more permanent or more durable than the unit itself.

I might just make it to 83...

That's pretty impressive, especially as new as the truck is. What engine is that?

I moved to Atlanta a year and a half ago after living my whole life in central Michigan. Up there, S10s would start looking pretty rough after about 5 years. Here I routinely see them from th mid 80s with a few dings, but otherwise spotless. I almost want to buy them and sell them up north. Almost.

I was on I-90, coming back from Eau Claire...I didn't want to be screwing with the camera at 70mph with 40-ton semis around me...I wouldn't have made it to 250,001.0!

I pulled over at 249,999 and again at 250,000, got WAY OVER to the right and THEN I shot the odometer...It's hard enough to get a decent shot with my camera when you're parked and idling in the dark (it was just after midnight)...I never would have gotten anything usefull zipping along at 70...it would have been impressive though...

Stupid, but impressive...like my face "pressed" against the windshield of the S-10...

“Small celebration” ?!?!?!
You should throw a huge celebration !!

A small celebration should be held for the S-10 series GM products that actually make 50K miles and 3 years of age.

It has the 4.3 Vortec married to a 3spd w/Overdrive and it's a 4WD. It's still the original engine...I'm running Mobil 1, 0W40 in it, and I change it every 5-6K. I started out on Dino 5W30 at 2.5-3K intervals, but I switched over to the Mobil 1 around 150K and haven't had ANY issues at all. Between changes, I will "top off" with one quart, but never have I had to go to a second quart.

But...

I've hit two deer with it...$4.8K and $3.3K worth of damage...no "air-bag" action though. Had the tranny overhauled (pulling too much in the "D" position...learned my lesson! (and the company ate the $1,600.00)) but she's pulling the weight now (in "3") and she's working better than ever. And as for the rust...nothing too crazy...just a little "pebbling" starting along the bottom seam on the tailgate...a little elbow-grease and some touchup paint should straighten that out.

I keep it pretty well rinsed and cleaned during the winter time. I've had enough GM products, over the years, to know enough about letting rust win the upper hand. Once the rust starts, the body just vaporizes.

My @55 is fine, a little larger than it was back in Dec.'99 when I got it.

It's funny you should mention the "CJ"...the dealership had the "10" in to do a tranny filter/fill the other night (their Service Dept. is open 'til midnight) and they realized that they didn't have the proper gasket for the cover, so they gave me a CJ to drive 'til the next day. When the temps. are down around 0° F, and you're driving around on barely-plowed roads, it's like driving a go-cart at 70mph...rough as hell and about as skittish...made me feel like I was 8-yo kid!

The S-10 is a bit better than the CJ, but then, I haven't changed the shocks on this thing yet...they aren't leaking, but then, I'm so used to the ride that I'm not sure what a new set of shocks would feel like...yep, they are the original set on that thing.

Thanks for reminding me...

You're right about that...I remember the first thought I had when I fired it up and I watched the dashboard go through its "initialization" - "Oh, an electronic 6-digit odometer...GM is pretty sure of itself, isn't it!"

Well, I'm on my way to the "3" on that 6th digit...I let you know if it happens...

I had a 92' S-10 Blazer (4DR, 4X4, 4.3L non-Vortec) which I acquired for free at 32kmiles after it had been involved in t-bone. $1200 fixed the front clip, straightened the frame and replaced the rad and condenser. I drove that little truck for another 160000 mi with not much more than routine maintenance. It did have a bad habit of eating the reduction gear starter about every two years...a PITA to replace. And, it always had an annoying electrical gremlin that would periodically make the voltmeter go to zero...never ran a battery down or anything just no indication on the volts.

It looked like a piece of crap when I sold it 4 years ago to a co-worker...paint flaking off everywhere, chrome in bad shape, back glass rattled like a SOB...

Right before last X-mas, I saw the buyer and she reported that the S-10 was still soldiering on down in Leon, MX and that her nieces were learning to drive with it.
