Question We have created human-animal embryos already, say British team

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article3663033.ece

Embryos containing human and animal material have been created in Britain for the first time, a month before the House of Commons votes on new laws to regulate the research.

A team at Newcastle University announced yesterday that it had successfully generated “admixed embryos” by adding human DNA to empty cow eggs in the first experiment of its kind in Britain.

Minotaur

Great! Britain has created a minotaur. They are only 2500 years behind the Greeks.

Now if you really wanted to do something useful, assuming you are male, combine your own DNA with that of a horse or dolphin. What young woman could resist you.

What I would like is to combine lobster DNA with a cow's. Instant surf and turf. Better yet, combine all sorts of vegi DNA into the cow. A double quarter pounder with cheese would be the ultimate health food.

Oh the possibilities! I wonder what the rest of you can come up with.

Scary stuff...good is that this kind of technology can be used for research aimed at fighting diseases...bad is that it can be used for experiments that should never happen.

I don't know but he is to blame since we are not moving in that direction. It's his fault and when he is out of office, life is good again, don't you know.

Stopped is not the right word. Hampered would be better.

Oh, you mean no federal funding for it? hey, no problem. I don't see a compelling federal interest in it (and I wish that were a common attitude!) but I also see no reason why anybody with money shouldn't experiment their little butts-off.

Reduced costs, higher availability, reduced liability and fewer "ethical" issues since a human egg is not destroyed.

Its kind of like the reasons behind testing makeup on monkeys instead of people.

It would be cool to get some DNA from one's beloved pet. Maybe a cat, say. And put it into a chicken. Then you could have your cat and eat it, too.

What happens if this thing becomes a cow/person? Would you want to be a cow-person? I wouldn't. Do you want your children to be cow-people? Think about it. We as humans have no rights to F*** with other people's/people-cattle's lives. Its freakin sick.
