This morning's work...

Tag, inoculate and worm the herd plus change a few little bull's minds from a*s to grass. Didn't get them all, #71 managed to bust through the head gate three times so I gave up on her.

That's me with the straw hat and Dad's old cop partner Ronnie on the knife.

Dad took the pics.

Are those Red Angus or Red Brangus?

My folks run ~30 head (pets) of the latter in retirement.

The red ones are Red Brangus (could be registered if we cared about that). The black ones are out of the Red Brangus cows and sired by full-blood Black Angus bulls.

Whereabouts is their operation?

Me too. (My ex) from Peru; talked about Lorena Bobbitt all the time, and called herself "Cucuchita Bobbitt".

I got out in time. Gracias a Dios.

Cool. My mom has a farm in Smithfield County, VA and they run quite a bit of hogs as there are so many 'smithfield' processors in the area. I guess I was about 10 (26 years ago....) when they quit using razor blades at 'cuttin time and switched to rubber bands. One of the local old retired hands found out and offered to do the job for free for the price of the, er, spoils. Gnarly.

When the dust settled, there were only six 'nads and they were barely bigger than your little finger...not worth the effort for calffries.

My folks live in Plymouth, CA (is in the Gold Country). They have 300 hilly acres of grass and oaks with a creek running through it.

They started out with all registered Red Brangus and palyed that game for a few years but got to be too much of a hassle to keep it up. They really just wanted pretty cows.

Understood. There's nothing quite as slick and happy as a well-fed Red Brangus. Ours got 18% protein hay and cottonseed meal (40% protein) all winter. You could barely tell when they calved they were in such great shape.

Ours look like they just got back from the boof with a new hairdo.
