Rev. Wright cursed America?
 

This is the interpretation I hear a lot. Joe Watkins, an overly glib black Republican McCain supporter who does commentary on MSNBC said as much the other day.

As loud and obnoxious as Wright is, I don't get that message from what he said.

I believe he was speculating on whether or not God does or will unfailingly bless our every action irregardless. As Wright clumsily said, the bible tells us that God sometimes smites the hell out of those who recently thought of themselves as God's chosen.

Vietnam didn't raise a finger against us and couldn't and wouldn't have in 500 years, at least. But we knew better and not only bombed hell out of them, we saturated vast swaths of the country with a highly durable poison that causes bith defects to this day.

And now we have embarked on a new campaign of bombing and disrupting a country who did not harm us.

God is going to bless this no matter what?

"God" is on the side of every warrior, and on the side of everyone in a war. So yes, he will smite the enemy.

I dunno and frankly, don't give a damn. Why not listen to the youtube clip and report back?

I've heard it, I don't like the guy. I also don't like people listening for their favorite buzzwords and ignoring the gist of the comment.

His thing about AIDS being developed to get the black man is out there, but consider that we poisoned a big part of the gook's territory cause they wouldn't toe our line.

Not such a far-fetched notion actually, given the way blacks have been treated in this country.

And the righties want to pound Obama for participating in the Million Man March. Farrakon is about half jerk but there are plenty in the black community that can't or won't do 2% of what he does to urge his fellows to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Yep. AIDS was developed by me because I hate black men. I was beaten up by black men when I was younger so I spent 10 years in my basement with my chemistry set and a few biology books and made the AIDS virus. Hell, I traced it back to the country of origin for the black man and set it free there.

That is because "God" is an idea in the imagination of people. "He" does not exist to bless or smite anyone anywhere anytime.

You can believe whatever you want to from the bible, you would have just as much luck believing that the fairy godmother will come turn a pumpkin into a coach for you.

Without the promise of a blessing for good behavior and a smiting for bad behavior, what else can they do to control you? Harsh language? It's just a comfort thing so that when you are wronged, you don't feel so upset because somebody is going to do the dirty job for you. Think Little Red Riding Hood. The wolf wanted to eat her and there is a woodcutter who kills the wolf for her. We have a dead wolf and no blood on her hands. Good thing there was no PETA then.

Or that if you get killed in the service of your deity, you get 72 virgins. Personally, I'd trade them in for a few good sluts. If I have to spend eternity teaching 72 virgins how to have sex, I'd probably kill myself again.

I don't believe that the AIDS virus is targeted anywhere. It might be that black women get it more but I can gurantee you that the virus is not racist and sexist. It doesn't really car who it gets. It doesn't say "Oh, I'm in a white woman. Guess I'll go somewhere else." or "Sweeet!. I'm in a black woman. Party time.".

Too bad the Rev couldn't stick to what he knows and decides to meddle in things he probably has no clue about.

It is in fact a particularly stupid notion. Prevalent in my homeland of South Africa where the head government honcho was even more moronic than the moron Wright. Believing that it didn't even exist and condemming millions to early deaths and wasted lives.

The irony of all this is that in fact it appears that Aids may well have been transmitted to the human populace thru the efforts of drug companies to manufacture vaccines that were used in Africa in abundnce in the late 40's and early 50's.

There was nothing pernicious about the intent of that though. The best of intentions etc...

People don't need to be threatened with eternal damnation to do what is right. All it takes is a shred of common sence and some education.

See, I didn't need bliss or damnation to influence that association.

Oh yes they do need some sort of threat. Yes, I know killing is bad and helping is good. But I could turn around and say WGAS? Let me ask you this, if you gave me immunity from cops, do you think I would keep my speed limit down to speed limit or do you think I would be flying thru? Do you think that I would pay my taxes if they couldn't fine me or jail me? Say you irritated me. Screw you. I'm going to put 2 in your head since there is nothing to punish me. Without the threat of punishment, do you think that we will have a more law abiding society or even the same or do you think there will be anarchy.

Eternal damnation serves one simple purpose. It tells you "Thou shalt not get away with it.". That means that even if I were smart enough to get out of legal trouble for killing you, raping you, stealing from you, etc, etc, I will still get punished in the end. Eternal Damnation serves to take over where mortal law cannot.

Another thing. Just because you know good and bad, doesn't mean you will act out on it. Lots of people know it is bad to cheat on their spouses but they still do it. Why? Because they don't know right from wrong? I have learned that people are basically bad. Therefore they will not just do the right thing automatically. It isn't just education and common sense. It is the threat of consequences. Since mankind cannot punish you for every illegal or immoral act because you happen to be smarter or more careful, the religious people enacted another arbiter to punish you and keep you in line to do the right thing. If you don't believe that, ask yourself this. Assume I gave you the power to suspend the law for 1 year. Would things get better or worse?

What's god got to do with it?

If you escape punishment in this life, you'd be scot free. Without a god to punish you in the next life, you could be more easily tempted to try your luck in this life.

Yet, our prisons are full of devout Christians. Sure stopped them from doing bad things to people.

Thats the thing though. There is no "other life", this is it. People waste too much time attempting to telepathically communicate with the Dead Jewish Zombie and not enough time doing what they should.
