(CBS) Many of the men in the polygamist sect in Eldorado, Texas didn't know it is illegal to marry someone under 18, one of them tells Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez in an exclusive interview:eek::confused:

Well, if you think about it, they are in an environment where the outside world is largely distrusted and shut out. If they grew up in that, maybe they really don't realize those things. I'm not defending them, but that could be the case.

Closed religious societies/cults maintain tight control on the flow of information in both directions. They also tend to create a "Them vs Us" outlook on things.

With that many wives, they're probably just thankful for the opportunity to speak at all.

In the wide-ranging interview, Rodriguez asked, “After all this, can you see why society looks upon you and says, ‘A girl who's younger than 18 shouldn't be married and having sex?’ Has this forced you to reconsider?”

One of the men, who identified himself as Rulon (none of the three offered a last name) responded, "Yes, many of us perhaps were not even aware of such a law, but yes, we have been made very aware in the last two weeks and we do reconsider -- yes.” Rulon says he has six children, ranging in age from a year to nine.

Well, if that was the case, we need to have sympathy on them. Whoda thunk humping an underaged girl is a problem. Could happen to anyone. Maybe we should give them some time to consider the matter while Bubba makes them his new girlfriend.

But Officer, I wasn't aware that this was a 25 zone and I was doing 65. Sure.

Good one, Jonathan!:D

Just leave them alone. If they want multiple wives, good for them.

Yes and no. Yes if those wives are over 18 and they know up front that only the first one is legally recognized should it become necessary. No if the marriage occurred between a 12yo and an adult. Would you be so generous if I was boinking your under aged sister?

Still her body. "Underage" is a legal term. Go to Mexico and she is not underage.

The age of consent is 17 in Texas.

Where do you draw the line. I dont think a 12 year old is mature enough to make a decision like that. Obviosly neither does the state of Texas.

The AOC in TN is 13 but they weren't in TN. Sucks for them that they were not in TN.

If they had a wife that was under 17 and IIRC correctly, a report mentioned a few, there is an issue.

Some people say "Old enough to bleed. Old enough to breed.". Yet others say "Old enough to pee. Old enough for mee". Some of them even make good wives to Bubba when they get caught and go to prison. :D Hey, even Bubba needs love and lovin too. :D Once in a while, he might need a new "Mama" too. :D
