Graduation Gift

Can you give me suggestions for a nice graduation gift for under $50. The man is 28 and will be receiving his doctorate in Physics.

Thanks

He probably has forgotten the easy stuff that was taught in high school.

I personally think that the best graduation gifts are things the person doesn't really "need" (and might not be inclined to buy for themselves) and which don't clutter the house.

Things like dinner for two at a nice restaurant, a nice bottle of wine, champagne, or liquor (if he drinks alcohol), or similar are what I mean. By the age of 28 he's probably accumulated all the stuff he needs to live (maybe too much), and he might be moving after graduation (so there's no need to give him something else to move).

May favorite, I think, is the dinner. If you live close to each other, just take him out for said dinner (the gift is even better then, because you make a memory); otherwise, call the place you want to get a gift certificate from and ask what's reasonable for (say) two people for a nice dinner and dessert.

Many people don't have room in their house for more "stuff" (especially if, as noted, he moves after graduation), and EVERYBODY eats.

How about a desk name sign that says: Dr. So-and-So, Physics or something like that?

A streetwalker might give 2 BJs for $50 if you talk to her right.
