Neighborhood tragedy

Last night my next door neighbor's son commited suicide by hanging himself in the basement. His mother discovered him when she came home from work. This is such a shock. I don't know then well, but we have always had a nice enough relationship with them. My older daughter walks their dog every afternoon, and so this has hit her harder than any of us.

What a tragedy. This woman's mother died last year, and she and her husband also divorced last year. Now she has this to contend with. He was her only son and would have been graduating from college this month.

It just makes you keenly aware of how fragile life is.

Crap, that's sad. Sounds like she's got an awful lot of rough stuff on her plate.

She seems like a very nice lady, too. At least she's been very nice to my daughters over the years.

That's really sad... Sometimes you never know the private Hell people are going through when they seem so normal and happy on the outside.

There are no words, typed or spoken, that will be able to console her...

May your family be available for her when she'll need it...and she will...just be the shoulder she will be so desperately needing...

My thoughts and prayers for your, and her, family.

That's dreadful allright, same thing happened up here 2 years ago.Once the door is shut and we're all ensconced in our own dwellings we have NO IDEA what occurs in someone else's life.

All you can do is be supportive without getting too involved. After all,you chiefly pay the debt of assisting her by your sympathy.

Keep a constant dialogue going with your children.

My sympathies to you, your daughters and your neighbor. My wife's star student committed suicide last fall. It won't be an easy road. For persons considering suicide in circumstances other than terminal illnesses, the best piece I know on the topic is Schopenhauer's essay on Suicide. His argument is not that suicide is wrong, but it is ineffective and philosophically confused.

Wow! I'm guessing due to the shock of it all that he didn't leave any hints of his growing despondence over life?

Awful, awful tragedy for everybody concerned.

Sure it was suicide? Not AA.

Thats a shame and very said.

An old friend of the family suddenly put a 12 guage deer round through his skull a few years back, supposidly there were business problems but there family is tight lipped about that stuff so know one outside of the family knows for sure. Shook everyone up it was so unexpected, it still doesn't sit right.
