Just got a call from a recruiter for OCS. Very tempting, very tempting. I have been thinking about talking to a recruiter for awhile now and than he called me I was like just email me some info and let me think about it. I would only join any service if I could do it as an officer though.

How hard is to command a tank? I really want to be able to drive a tank, I think that would be a blast. My friend tried to get in to fly but he couldn't because of his shoulder.

If they let me command one of these I'd sign up for 4 years in a heartbeat. It would be nice getting out of the house and town for a bit.

Enlisted life is much more fun BTW.

I'm very seriously considering it. I'm 22 going on 23 and have never really done anything to speak of. School is ending next year and I'm like whats next? Granted I'm trying to start a business and this will certainly hurt that for awhile, but I think in the long term it might help. I think it would be very interesting and a good learning experiance. Plus I would be an officer so that would be better; my dad was in the Navy and he wants me to enlist.

I think I'll set an apointment to go talk to him next week.

Also my dad said by June of next year I'm on my own! This would certainly solve that problem.

I think you should do it, and wait out the currEnt economic cycle, while getting some outstanding life-training. Or you could be a dumbass like me and start building four spec houses during the course of the next year

Rent the DVD "Carrier" I'll bet you will run to the Navy recruiters office afterwards.

Don't count on it.....btw, showing my ignorance, I thought you had to be a college grad to go straight into OCS? Med?

Are you graduating from college? Do you have any idea how hot it is in that tank in the summertime? Go into the airforce and be a flyboy, fly that stealth fighter.

A good friend of mine told me a funny story about his days as a Marine officer. He graduated from college, went to OCS, and got sent to Vietnam. One day he and a private were in a foxhole waiting for the shooting to die down. When things got quiet, he ordered the private to see whether the coast was clear. The private said that he didn't want to do that. My friend said that maybe he was not being clear with the private. He ordered him to go check it out. Still, the private refused, saying, "Whatcha' gonna do, send me to Vietnam?" I'm not sure how he resolved the impasse, but he had to admit to himself that the private had a point.

I should be building one spec house this year, hoping to do a few more next year.

You just have to get the land cheap enough. One lot if the owner says yes I'll be paying $125k for which is a lot for that area. He orginaly wanted $200k but we offered to buy the house as well so it works out better. The other 4 that I am trying to contact the owners would be more or less free, I'd buy and flip the house while breaking off the lot.

When the lot is free the margin is nice and you make good money.

You should be OK with 4, my uncle has alread sold 4 this year, things are moving.
