John McCain opposed the farm bill. In an impassioned speech on Monday, he declared: “It would be hard to find any single bill that better sums up why so many Americans in both parties are so disappointed in the conduct of their government, and at times so disgusted by it.”

Well at least someone has some sense.

Don't worry the spending will end eventualy, we can't borrow money forever.

This is about the first time I've agreed with McCain over Obama, and it's no small point.

Oh man, I wish we'd had McCain instead of "W" these past 8 years.

David Brooks left out this part:

About two-thirds of the bill would pay for domestic nutrition programs such as food stamps and emergency food aid for the needy amid rising grocery prices. An additional $40 billion is for farm subsidies.

It's perhaps the least available to serious abuse among the welfare programs.

You spoke earlier of chlorinating the gene pool. Probably a lot more problematic than it sounds. People don't die off from starvation right away, and certainly not w/o a fight.

More likely is that they become lower and meaner and less likely to be of use to the greater society. Increased crime and larger armies of beggars, pickpockets, scammers. More people dying in the streets, spreading disease the while.
