How many people here like Volvo?

As described in me beater thread I think I'm ending up with a 2000 Volvo S70 by choice. So far it has a couple mechanical things to take care of but other than that I am loving the car, first I love the ergonomics I can get my broken body in and out with out a problem and once inside the controls are straight forward and true car like. While driving its smooth quiet with an E class atmosphere. I can't really think of anything bad so far it seems like a straight forward car that most fixes are DIY.

I also love the MPG, I've been hammering the gas pedal and still average 28.5 which is totally acceptable IMO.

Too be honest I have not like a car this much since my Lexus even with the issues that need to be worked out.

I drove an S70, I think it was the same year as the car you are talking about. The one thing that really stood out were the seats, probably the most comfortable and supportive-in-the-right-places seats I've ever used in a sedan...that alone made me like the car a lot. The engine was pretty peppy but the steering felt odd, kind of "rubbery" if that makes sense, maybe a mix between an old American car and an old German car. It had a really cracked dash, worse than my 300D.

With my mangled spine the seats make it for me, I guess I could go Recaro in another car but the S70 fits me perfect. I'm praying for a good bill of health from the mech...so far so good.

I traded in my W210 this Spring for a V70 Cross Country. Decent mileage, the turbo 5 is a fun motor, and probably the most comfortable seats I have ever been in. The car is a great driver and I only wish my wife would let me get behind the wheel more often.

I had a mid 70s 141 back in the 80s and it was a fun, reliable ride.

28 mpg on a car that size is not bad. My li'l 325i only gets about 20.

I've never owned one and don't have any particular basis for my opinion, but my sense is that they can get expensive as they age. I have a friend who has had nothing but Volvos for decades now. He tends to run them up near 200,000 before replacing them. The last few he's had have had electrical issues and other annoyances. Nice solid cars, though.

Looks cool, especially with the wing.

My uncle is a Volvo Nut. He currently has a XC70 and XC90. He says they are super reliable and fun to drive...

Volvo was bought out by Ford in 1999, and subsequent years showed a marked decline in quality control and build quality.

However, Volvo still retained its commitment to every possible safety feature in the car, which makes it a very worthy choice IMO.

They also have the best seats in the business, which makes them hands down the best choice for people with back issues. Like Mercedes Benz, their vehicle seats involved orthopaedic surgeons in the design of them.

The real Volvo zealots, however, the hard core ones, I mean, say that only the rear wheel drive ones are the really good ones.

www.ipdusa.com (IPD) is "THE" parts source and best place for the Volvo upgrades, (kind of like a hybrid AMG and Fastlane kind of place,) and they have a wonderful free newsletter you can get.

But with the 2001 C70 HPT Firemist Red turbo coupe I bought brand new (cost $40k ish), it had the worst case of torque steer I ever felt in a car in my whole life. The steering wheel felt alive, like a squirming animal in my hands.

It was also such a bad car that after a year I had to hire a Lemon Law attorney to get the car bought back by Volvo, which they did. If anyone wants the link to the whole amazing story, about this unfortunate new car, PM me and I will send it to you from the Brickboard.

It was the first new car I ever bought, and did so hoping for another good experience after owning the 1991 Volvo 740 for all those years.

You can imagine how wonderful it was to get to choose which car to drive in San Francisco with a charcoal black '91 560SEC AND a charcoal black '91 Volvo 740 from which to pick, each of them pretty new and paid for.

A lovely duo to behold.

Dude. You're in a Mercedes forum... they get expensive as they age too, or at least have the potential to.
