WORKING-CLASS students have lower IQs than those from wealthier backgrounds and should not be expected to win places at top universities, an academic has claimed.
Bruce Charlton, an evolutionary psychiatrist at Newcastle University, has written a paper asserting the reason why fewer students from poor families are admitted to Oxford or Cambridge is not because of social prejudice, but lack of ability.

What a surprise!

You mean he found if your parents are not college educated its more likely you will have a lesser IQ than a child of the parents of college educated parents?

This is a subject close to my heart as my father was a factory worker and my mom a waitress when I was small. Nevertheless, of eight children all but one of us has a college degree. Mom and Dad valued education as the great avenue to bettering onesself and we took it to heart.

But of course the odds are as he found. No surprise there.

Thats what this country is all about...the opportunity to beat the odds through personal effort.

Did he get a big grant to make that study?

Why is it the gentleman who do this type of research never look like Gregory Peck!

This 'news' sound eerily familiar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bell_Curve

The problem with this theory is the opposite view means the poor are born that way and deserve welfare. The Libs can push that all they want but I'm not buying into it.

Don't believe everything you read. Psychiatrists work for a living so what does that tell you about the study...

That sounds like more of a right wing position to me. (except the part about welfare).

What makes an evolutionary psychiatrist think he knows enough about I.Q.'s, to dare to come up with the idea for such a study, and then to have the nerve to actually go through with it, and have the guts to publish it?

somewhere in the universe is a research facility with too much money in it's coffers. Anyone who wakes up and goes to work is my hero.
