Memorial Day- Whatcha Doin?

What is everyone doing today? I'm going to try and see some Rolling Thunder on Key Bridge and then hanging out by the pool and maybe buying some new car mats for the SL.

Well,I was awakened early by a frightful din coming from the toolshed.
My dogs weren't barking, they were screaming.

They went possum hunting!Lucy, the more hare-brained pit bull, paraded about with the poor critter for hours but every dog had a turn to proudly strut with the days catch.
Funny thing is they started howling again. What do I see but the "DEAD"baby possum walking away on the other side of the fence, boy were my dogs pissed.
Here's a pic.I'm gonna clean out a garage bay, have to look for an engine that needs rebuilding

Here in Edinburgh, it's the Queen's birthday. Right now I'm doing my wash in the hostel laundry. Took students to visit Adam Smith's grave this morning. Read a little from his Theory of the Moral Sentiments and infused some impressionable minds with musings on the strengths and weaknesses of capitalism.
Tomorrow it's off for a bus tour of the Highlands and then on Wednesday the seething mass of youthful hormones gets on a plane back to the USA and I'm left to my own devices for a few days as I hurtle across Europe on the Orient Express.

The trip has been marred by an e-mail from my wife. Before I left I contacted the victim's advocate for assurance that the scumball who followed my daughter would remain in jail while I was out of the country. I was assured that nothing would happen before 6/20. Friday, the DA called my wife to tell her they were dropping the charges and releasing him.

I have been listening to a Memorial Day Commemorative program on a local (non PBS) radio station.
They have had the stories behind the granting of a number of Medals of Honor.
Excerpts of speeches by Douglas B. MacArthur, and George C Scott's Patton. Speeched that would be extremely unlikely to be heard or taught in today's public schools.

It has been a very emotion, moving experience.
I owe a debt of thanks to generations of American heroes.
Thank you.

Cooking out with all five kids, their four spouses, and nine and a half grand kids!

Lovely chaos.

Why?

Did some yardwork, probably play some poker and procrastinate on getting some groceries.

Probably go to my mom's, and lounge in her pool. The water is finally above 85 degrees, so it should be tolerable.

I'm waiting for RotoRooter to come out. We got DUMPED ON with rain yesterday, and while I had water coming in the basement over the window wells and even topped the foundation wall, the floor drain started backing up too. I had a river running THROUGH my garage, when I opened the back garage door, several inches of water ran through, even took my trash bags and deposited them in the driveway. I also dug a drainage ditch along the back of the house, trying to get some of the water away. I did all this in the dark, in a driving rain, from 1AM to 6:30AM. I was watching the Weather Channel just, now and there's more rain today. My lucky day!

Nothing has changed in the meantime to my knowledge. I talked to the assistant DA in charge of the case a few weeks ago and we discussed how to approach the trial and whether or not we would agree to a plea bargain etc. Something doesn't smell right but I can't quite identify the odor.

Howdy All,
Took the dogs out for a couple hours this morning to chase jacks. Now I'm going to sit in front of the tv falling asleep while watching some sports.
