A 300EVIL Margarita....

With all the Liquor threads I see around here I figured I'd post my margarita mix that has been passed down over the generations.

First off, a good margarita does not start with a sugary sweet and sour drink mix. I start with 2 or more (depending on size) fresh, ripe limes squeezed over clear chipped ice. From there I add 1 and 1/2 to 2 shots of good room temp tequila. I usually use Sauza Conmorativo or Cazadores Arrjo. That's my preference, the darker the better. I'd highly suggest you stay away from white tequila's, their disgusting! To top it off, add 1 shot of cold Grand Marnier and stir gently. Enjoy!

Try it, you won't regret it.

Hatties Vodka tonic:
Fill glass with ice.
Fill glass about 1/4 of the way up with a good vodka.
Fill rest with tonic.

You can plat with the flavors, if you want.

Hatties Rum and Coke:
Fill glass with ice.
1/4 of the way up with really good rum.
Rest with Coke.
Stir slightly for a good mix, and enjoy.

My view is a good drink has some kick to it. So I don't bother measuring shots.

Agreed, I usually pour until the amount of "glugs" meet my satisfaction. I actually had to measure to get the recipe to a tolerable level for most people. The key here is "add to taste"....

My favorite:
  • One bottle Sam Adams Boston Lager, chilled.
  • One bottle opener.
  • Open and enjoy.
  • Repeat.

Call me what you want, I can enjoy captain and coke, but will do shot after shot of girly sour apple pucker, and case after case of mikes lemonade...

I think I might drink too much, but o well, gotta have some fun.

I love it when they ask what "KIND" of Vodka you want in it.

My favorite Margarita is similar.

Fresh squeezed limes, Cabo Wabo Reposado, and Damiana instead of Grand Marnier or Cointreau. I also prefer it shaken for 1 minute which breaks up the ice into little refreshing chips. I like salt on half the rim too.

Well my drinking buddies are pretty hard core and usualy if I am making them they will add a bit more. I'm all for taste but I think a drink should taste like a drink and not a fruity thing. You can get introuble if you can't taste the booze because they start to go down real easy!

My long day drink is Kettle 1 on the rocks.

Hmm

Had an interesting twist on a Cape Codder the other day.

Luksosowa, about 1/3 of the glass. Then that Pomegranate/Acai berry juice they sell in produce dept. With generoous ice. And an orange slice on the rim.

Uber good.

Those freaking pomegranates certainly seem to be the in thing right now. My wife loves them and virtually any drink with it. It seems to be showing up in bottles of adult beverages everywhere. I'm not a fan of sweet drinks so I do enjoy the tartness of the pom juice.

Ya give it a try! I tried it both with Pomegranate flavored Vodka..either Absolut or Stoly that my friend had...and I didn't like it. In General I don't like flavored vodkas.

So I tried it with my old stand by, Luksusowa and it was delicious.

Grand Marnier is a cognac based orange liqueur, ever so much tastier and more pricey than triple sec, which although "orange" flavored, hasn't seen an orange.

The recipe posted above follows my rules for a good Marg :

NO triple sec
NO sweet and sour mix
Fresh Lime juice and Grand Marnier only.
And god forbid, NEVER one of those horrible girly frozen slushy things made in a machine.
Either on the rocks, or shaken and poured straight up.
Salt is optional.

I like Tres Generaciones, Hornitos, Herradura Anejo, or a good single farm Mezcal, but they're hard to come by less'n you know somebody.
