Greetings from Budapest

Pulled into the Keleti train station this afternoon after leaving from Edinburgh on Wednesday. European high speed trains are very nice. Traveled overnight in a sleeper from Edinburgh to London and then had breakfast under the English Channel on a Eurostar train. Hungarian trains still have a little communist bloc flavor to them, especially with 2 Polezei walking up and down the aisles. I'll be here for a day before heading further east thru Romania to Turkey. Riding up the Rhine on the night train from Cologne to Vienna was a treat I won't forget soon. Austria and Hungary have been reminding me of upstate NY, with small family farms, rolling hills and deciduous trees. Graffiti in Belgium was an embarrassment to their great artistic legacy. German graffiti is of much higher quality.
Only seen two Trabants so far.

Nice! That was the area of the last major German offensive of WW2.

Sorry can't help tracing the advance and retreat of the German army as places in Europe are named.

Army Group South had that sector, Field Marshal Erich von Manstein had that sector for a time.

I was there years ago, when I bought dinner for our group of 12 for around 30 bucks! The buildings were beautiful but blackened from air pollution. We stayed around the Lake Balaton area, which was pretty nice.

Just got back from Europe also and was amazed at the amount of grafitti in every country. I am also amazed that they just seem to accept it.
