Anybdoy ever fired a Gyrojet?
I remember a write-up in American Rifleman (I believe it was) in the mid 1960's. I thought about it recently and just did a Googl search and voila! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrojet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoffTmg9bxU&NR=1 I wonder if one could make a hybrid in which the initial acceleration is overcome by small external explosive charge while the rocket begins it's initial ignition and acceleration. |

Yeah I remember watching that History channel show awhile back. It sounds like an invention that was trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.
Isn't this how the H&K P11 works?

Essentially the initial impulse is the governing force.Any additional impulse would,of necessity, screw up the initial spin of the projectile.Robert Parker Parrott designed such a projectile but found it was unreliable. |

Wow. That’s pretty cool.
But, you know me….I was actually hoping from the thread title that this was about firing up some new jet propulsion system.
