Argentine Family drives 1981 Ford Falcon from Pacheco to Dearborn, MI

http://www.weyi.com/news/news_story.aspx?id=140827

Someone needs to do the same thing with a MB from the US. Drive it to the northeastern edge of North America, have it sent to western Europe on a cargo jetliner, and drive it from there to Stuttgart.

Wasn’t there a deal on this forum a few years ago where a guy drove his older MB diesel from somewhere here in the US down to South America? I recall lots of pictures of the adventure. Perhaps it was a different forum linked from here, or someplace that I saw it on the web, but it was a cool story.

I wanna (one day) drive my wagon to alaska, stick it onto a boat, drive across russia, and eventually into Germany. Take a picture at the factory, and then go back.

This is the link.

I had an extensive conversation with him off line because I have travelled extensively in Peru myself

He went in a 1980 W116 300SD from Los Angeles to Texas down to the tip of Tierra Del Fuego at the southermost tip of Argentina, all by himself, not knowing how to speak Spanish. The last 400 miles he was towed on a rope.
But he got there. The car is still down there.

This was just last year.

He was a young man in his early 20s named Elliott Kim, a Koren American ex soldier and one of the finest young folks I ever encountered.

People like him give me hope for America's future

If people saw the car parked a block ahead they'd take a side street, if you had one behind you inm traffic you'd turn at the next intersection. It was creepy being mortally afraid of a Falcon.

Probably even worse if it had its wings out.

The Argentine Falcons were built on the body dies of the original Ford Falcon sedans, the ones made from 1960-1963, which were sent to Argentina.

Black and yellow ones were default taxicabs for years there.

Their body styles were mildly refreshed over the years and kept in production well into the 1980s.

Likewise, the attractive 1966-1968 Ford Torino four door sedan body dies were shipped to Argentina and became Argentine Fords for many, many years.

Even the 1965-1966 Ford Galaxie 500 and LTD body dies went down there and rose resplendent as Ford LTD luxury sedans, hearses and limousines down in Argentina well into the 1980s, with curiously restyled body cues

All of these cars were very much a part of Argentina's auto scene, and some nice examples still ply the roads, along with some not so nice beaters.

They can still be found for sale sometimes, with pictures to see what a Ford from the 60's with a South American accent would look like, check this

Alaska to the bottom of Argentina and back would be a feat to behold.

This guy rode his bike from Alaska to Argentina.
