Travel is Stressful

My grandmother and I were flying back to Chicago. We were flying first class on AAdvantage Miles. We went to the gate but there were no seats available in our gate area so we had to sit over at the next gate. We could barely hear the flight announcements. Suddenly we heard they were boarding our flight and they were already calling 'group 4'. We had missed the announcement for First Class, group 1, group 2, and group 3. We could have boarded much earlier and now my grandmother was worried she wouldn't have any space to stow the glasses she bought for my parents anniversary.

An airline employee overheard our conversation, realized that we were first class and told us just to go over to our gate and walk to the front of the line. My grandmother and I walked over to the gate area but my grandmother didn't want to just walk to the front of the line, she felt uncomfortable doing that so we walked about midway down the line and stopped next to this lady. The lady was probably in her mid 60s had a stack of books with her, but I doubt she was a librarian. The lady says to my grandmother, "The end of the line is back there". My grandmother tells the lady that we're flying first class. The lady says, "YOU'RE not first class". The lady has one of those Baltimore accents, you know she sounded like she was from Philadelphia but there was a kind of a southern twang mixed in. Anyway, I started to feel nervous, my grandmother and I just stand there and the lady again says, "The end of the line is back there". My grandmother says, "We're first class". The lady says in a really loud voice like she's auditioning for something, "You're not first class". Then one of the gate agents comes running over with a screwed up look on her face and demands to see my grandmother's ticket. After she looks at the ticket she gets this deflated look and tells us to come to the front of the line. We board.

We are just sitting there and the lady with the books gets on and smiles like nothing happened. Then when we get to my house my grandmother is still upset about what happened and my parents tell her she was wrong, we should have just gone to the front of the line or stayed at the end of the line. Travel is stressful.

I hope nothing worse than THAT happened, and your trip was good. Welcome back

It could've been a lot worse, for what that matters. Airports suck in general, travel without an airport is a lot better.

Although, I went skiing with 4 people for a week out of a Honda Civic, and on the return ride home, we had to chemically sedate two of the passengers because of the cramped space.

Too bad they don't let you carry box cutters anymore, you could have slit the Baltimore b*tch's throat and left her to bleed out, right there in the line.

My son's trip home from central coast Cali is always a nightmare. He has to take a bus, a train, and another bus before he even sees a plane. And it always gets screwed up with delays and cancellations. But he is young and "up for the adventure", in his words.

We've got Chinese co-workers who occasionally travel to China to visit family. You should hear THEIR travel stories!!!

Usually they take a couple of weeks off to make the trip, especially if the family lives in a remote farm comuunity in some Chinese province...it's a more hellish version of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles"!

I will admit, there is nothing fun about air travel these days. I can't imagine airline companies being in business much longer...prices go up, service and perks go down...how many other types of businesses survive with that sort of plan?

There is nothing fun about the airport. . .I wont even fly anymore, unless absolutely necessary, then its Southwest all the way. . .Everything is way jacked up and no one has any common decency anymore. I see it daily, everyone thinks their time is more valuable then the next persons. . .

Security is especially fun. . with the airlines charging per bag, everyone carries everything they are bringing into the cabin to avoid paying for checked baggage. Then when their bags are pulled for further inspection, everyone fakes like they do not understand the regulations. . . good times. . .

I flew last week to San Jose, Mexico with two obnoxious unwieldy rifle cases stuffed with fishing rods on Delta, didn't pay any extra baggage fee and had no problems whatsoever. Not even with customs Plane was less than half full going and full coming back.
