get rid of the US headlights if you have them, replace with Euro.

Welcome to the Mercedesshop forum.

As you are brand new, and double posted in the wrong place, let me direct you to repost your question. Do so in Diesel Discussion or technical help, or the W126 section of www.benzworld.com where I am a Moderator.

Using these pictures, can you say which headlight assembly on your W126 380SEC that you have?

If you have the US set up you should get rid of it entirely and not fool around with the bulb inside.

There are many, many reasons to upgrade to the Euro headlight system on these cars, and simply not fool around at all with the US headlight system;
Principal among these, are the increased candlepower, better beam pattern (be sure to get a Left hand drive set up though), and better looks, and the fact that the car was intended to have the euro headlight system in the first place.

1) remove the headlight frame
2) remove the surround around the low/high sealed beam
3) replace the entire sealed beam, the bulb is not seperate.
