Mercedes models that says "old money"

I've always thought the W126 S-class has that old money feel to it. Something about it that gives it a very dignified look, especially a well kept one. I see too many abused ones, but a late model W126 in nice condition just says old money. The W140 says old money too, also dignified yet somewhat pompous. Pretty much any SL model smells of old money. Of course, can't forget the classic M-B with the big vertical grills. Somehow the newer M-B doesn't give off that old money feel. I like them, but they seem too flashy or guady, even?

The oldest money I know drives a late 80's Chevy suburban, and has a bunch of other blah domestic cars...but they have more money than God and the family started to be a banking force in about 1800 or so. Their house was built in 1890ish, typical victorian manson except that its currantly lived in. The rusted out redneck suburban looks really out of place in front of the Italian marble entrance.

I know some real rich people around here with old, old cars too, I'm talking 20/30 year old domestic cars like Jeep Wagoneeers.

I think the W126s are one of the most recognizable, classic looking MBs there is. I don't know about "old money." Sam Walton drove around in an old Ford pickup truck. Then again, I don't think HE came from money, just made a lot of it.

how about the 107?? when ever in in south Florida, it is not all that uncommon to drive through the more historical areas and see a 107 or a 126 in front of a small older house on deep water, which with property values in these parts, are at lease a couple of million. . .

The only "old money" girl I've ever know drove a VW Jetta that was 4 years old at the time (bought new for her at age 18). When I asked why she didn't drive something better, she replied that it was a little crass to show off with a flashy car. I guess the estates they live in and the art hanging on the walls will have to suffice, as far as displays of wealth go.

I'd say that a W111 convertible has a real "old money" look to it.

When we were driving around Beverly Hills and checking out all the "old money" estates around there we saw lots of 107's (SL's), and lots of 126's (S-class). These cars were very well maintained. Also saw a few 230SL's, 250SL's, and 280SL's. Nice! Rodeo Drive is car watching heaven. You see everything there, lots of money. I saw three S65's and a SL65 all in about two hours. Lots of Lambos, Ferraris and Rolls also.

NOTHING says "old money" like the 1886 Benz:

OR, (and more seriously) the 1936 Mercedes-benz 540K:

Okay, I have to agree with you on the 540K. If not old, atleast owning won implies the one has a $hitload of money.

My friend and I went to the store the other day in mine. After about 3 blocks he started freaking out saying "what the hell is everyone's problem, everyone is staring at us"

There are only a handful of old 126's in our town.

Out here, "old money" typically used to be DeVilles and Eldorados.
