UPS wants to buy DHL? Did they get hit in the head with a brick or something?

FedEx has got to have the biggest grins on their faces right now.

I reviewed the powerpoint presentation that DHL provided for the acqusition!

Unbelievable!

Their domestic losses are so bad that they want to relinquish their air fleet and just have UPS do it for them. Their current losses amount to $1.3 billion /yr. Their optimistic projection shows that within ten years of the merger, they don't project profit, but rather, losses to be reduced to $ 0.3 billion/yr!!!

Yeah, we're smiling!

History is rife with German companies with poor upper managment skills. Many times a German company with a good product cannot earn a decent return on the investment due to bad management.

I worked for one of those companies for 10 years. Good product.........poor service........poor attitude..........and poor customer support. Now I compete with them............

DHL #1 in Stolen Shipments

DHL has the worst record for missing/stolen shipments over anyone. They cannot even make a simple cross town delivery correctly.

If you underprice the competition, hire the guys rejected by everyone else (I mean DHL hires folks who were fired by Home Despot) and farm out your CS to God knows Where (believe me I could not place the accent...Not Indian, maybe Philipine, Malyasian?) and then wonder wht is happeneing?

I can see the local DHL crew from my Manhattan office window smoking dope in the alleyway every day at 11:30AM...call to DHL and nothing done...DHL'er came in on Friday REEKING of WEED...shipment from Queens to Manhattan goes to Pittsburg! Dell insists prepaid return for repair by DHL...3 laptops go missing forever. Dell rep says they lose 12 to 15% of new laptop shipments that go DHL but "management" says its cheaper than UPS/FedEx.

They don't even honk the horn around here, they just throw the package over the fence or give it to someone a few doors down. Many times, I won't buy something on fleabay if the seller uses DHL.

DHL? They the ones with the yellow trucks?Don't see them much about these parts,{L.I.'s North Shore}Everyone prefers UPS and while we see an occasional Fedex truck they are not known for their directional skills.

Don't care since I never use them. UPS is the way to go, Fedex is pretty good as well.

Yup, yellow truck, and they almost always have some sort of body damage and sometimes the smell of MaryJane is pretty strong.

You won't have DHL to kick around any more.

I saw my DHL truck on its side out on the main road in front of the subdivision. This happened the day after I got my laptop from Dell. Driver was ok

I had the same experience in the medical field, Zeiss and Siemens have phonomenal equipment but piss poor sales and service and if a person wanted to use outside service they were blackballed for parts.........which is precisely why Stryker and GE have grown so much for surgical/imaging equipment.

DHL dominates the international market however...FedEx envies their global position...

...I'm not sure if service and quality don't rate in other countries, but DHL thought when the trade laws changed, they could enter the US market and throw tons of money from their deep pockets into a domestic venture and suddenly become successful!

Economics 101: If you plan to compete against entrenched companies with a loyal customer base, you'd better offer something over and above your competitors, other than low pricing!

UPS and FedEx will be hovering like buzzards, waiting to pick up the customers DHL left behind...

I believe internationally they have a good rep., our experience with them for European shipments was very good. They tried to weasel in on UPS/FedEx for our domestic shipping but the sales rep. they sent had serious issues and the meeting resulted in my father telling him to "Get the f*** out and don't step foot in here again!" Needless to say their domestic reputation preceeded the salesman's ill-fated pitch.
