college frustrations..my thinking out loud

I am sitting here cross referencing my major through UCF's website and what classes I can take at the community college level.

this term I need to take chemistry, trig, ethics, and some other class so I am on track. I am thinking black and white photography on monday from 1-4:50pm
but all of the other classes are Tuesday, Thursday classes. Plus Chemistry is a ***** on my schedule, it takes up from 10 am to 2:50 on tuesdays and thursdays 10-12:50. Which screws up my Tuesday with ethics and trig

so, I look to the Lakeland campus and there is a chem on monday and wednesday, 12-4:50 on monday and 12-2:50 on wednesdays.

so here is what I am thinking

Mondays and Wednesdays I drive the 40 miles to Lakeland for Chem and just chem

Tuesdays and thursdays I can drive to winter haven, just 24 miles (one way, both are one way distances) for trig, ethics and photography

but stupid strikes again. If I go to lakeland for chem on MW then photography is out since its monday 1-4:50 and that ***** chem is in the way

ok so back to the drawing board...

I notice that I need Literature 101.. ok easy, I can take that T and R at 8-9:50 am in winter haven

and then ethics at 11-11:50

then trig at 12:30-1:45 T and R

and then add chem at 10-11:15 as well as chem on tuesday 12-2:50 n tuesdays for labs... but then... trig is out again

ok ok so where to look now

It does appear there is a "hybrid" class which is like an online class with human interaction?? which would soo open up my schedule for chem this term, but I hate online classes...
but it says Mymathlab, software that goes with the book[which is a very good learning tool, it helped me alot in algebra] is basically where all of the homework is based and a lot of instruction revolves around it.

so.. here is my proposed fall schedule

LIT100 14219 8:00-9:15 T&R
CHM1045C 13858 10:-11:15 T and R
12:00-2:50 on T
MAC1114 14247

crap.. ethics is out, again... ok what to replace it with from that one list... I can do the photography class( I have to pick one class out of like 20 to satisfy some additional requirements... two are solid classes .. frign calc1 with physics and cal2 with physics.. which I need calc 1 and calc 2 which are a fcuking year away)

so... I can do the Monday photography class and leave one easy class for next term that way I do not have to drive 80 miles a day for one lame ass chem class.

I have been told I can take trig and pre calc at the same time but it would be very hard and not recommended.. which leaves me not taking it.

which also leaves me with 4 days a week to work and I am going for that new job at Disney, the photography job.. interview is on Thursday. If I get the job I will need two scheduled days and I can pick up shifts as I please.. I like to leave Saturdays free for car shows and car stuff.. so

I can work Wednesdays and Fridays as my set days and pick up shifts.

ok.. my new proposed schedule

LIT100 14219 8:00-9:15 T&R
CHM1045C 13858 10:-11:15 T and R

12:00-2:50 on T
MAC1114 14247

PGY1100C 14440 1:00-4:50 M

which leaves me with

pre calc, chem 2, ethics, and some other BS classes for the spring

with three days of class, 48 miles a day round trip yields me 144 miles a week going to school

disney is 17 miles away, 34 miles round trip X a minimum of 2 days a week yields 68 miles and with 4 days 136 miles

at 2 days of work with 3 days of school nets me 212 miles a week, which is within my average weekly mileage

4 days work 3 days school nets 280 miles... not bad and all of my driving is highway based so at an average mpg of 26 mpg I will need, at least 11 gallons of diesel a week and at $4.69 that is $50 a week +/- any stupid non school or work driving I do....

starting wages for the photography job at disney is $9.30 plus every hour after 8 during your daily shift is time and a half, my shifts will be 10 or 12 hours a day that I work so... compared to publix, working 8 hours a day, at $8.75, I come out ahead in more ways than one than switching to disney. the perks, the people, the experience, the usual crap that goes with any job, is better than what I am experiencing as a put box on shelf guy....Plus... Plus, since eagle-co's wife is also a photographer, and if I get the job at a water park, we can commute together, thus saving fuel for the both of us....

it works, it works?.. bah. I spare no expense for education, time on the other hand, is a pita to spare

this would have worked better if I had a giant white board to write things out.. anyways.. have fun understanding my ramblings

I think.. waaaaaay to critically

crap.. the photography class is only two hours, I need 12 hours to get back on my parents insurance policy.. crap

back to the drawing board......

I can take World Mythology on tuesdays 6:30-9:30 PM!!!

I also need to see if I can just skip trig and go to pre calc... the only prereq is college algebra....crap the F6 key on my laptop just fell off.. gaay

I can just bite the bullet and take a 3 hour class, one day a week, on thursdays... that way I do have insurance, better insurance, than what I have now

It sucks trying to juggle work and school. I'll be back to that by next fall at the latest. I remember one semester back in the 90's - yes, I've been trying to finish THAT long lol. I couldn't find 2-3 classes to fit my schedule so I wound up with one class this particular semester - Intro to Pre-Historic Archeology - Mondays 5 to 7:30pm.. It fulfilled a "humanity" so I killed myself to leave work every Monday before 4pm to get there. Financially it was a waste of money between book, parking permit for the semester and traveling time & expense. If that comes up again where I can't get more than one class to fit my schedule, I'll probably just take that semester off. It's taking me THIS long, another semester isn't gonna kill me..

cha.. I am even thinking, maybe engineering isn't my thing... seriously, I hate math but apparently I am somewhat good at it

ahh

chemistry is a 4 hour course.. cool... so that would bring me up to 12 hours.... If I was going to a university, 15 to 18 hours would be the standard.. but I can't afford that... plus I still have an easy class for next term and a fun class this term.. The photography class will help with the new job

average course load for my CC is 15 hours a semester... I can't do it.. but I need to..But then all of my damn classes are spread out with useless prereqs and the lot... damn it..

I can change my major to liberal arts and transfer to a university and pick up classes there.. but.. its a pain with the costs and the moving and the added costs of.. I cant do that

I think I will finish up this year a CC and then try and transfer to UCF and pick up classes there. I might, might see if I can skip trig and go to pre calc.. I should be able to since its basically the same book. If I can do that, I will be on track.

it really annoys me that I could be out there, right now, making more money than pissing my time away at CC or going to a university, barely passing any of my classes due to the course load, work, and university related crap.

I can't
the second summer semester is somewhat full. I don't need bio and the rest of my summer is booked with conferences I have to attend as they are relevant to my field of study

maybe, just maybe I can leave chem until next semester, spring, and fill this semester with trig, precalc, lit, and photography, but then I wouldn't be at 12 hours, I could add another class in there and up it to 14...

chem II is not needed so, next term is a possibility.. with calc 1, chem 1, ethics, and a BS class

- dives back into class listing book-

no, I need chem this term so I have room next term for calc 1 and stuff..

just slipped and hit my head on the toilet and came up with a great explanation to myself how this schedule can and will work( no I didn't really slip)

Ok.. so

monday I go to school at 1 pm until like 5.. sucks, but It gives me time in the AM to do homework and any other school stuff before going to class, which is good. as well as time after school to do class work

Tuesdays will be a long day if I can skip the trig class and take precalc a 6:30-9:30 at night.. but, that gives me 3.5 hours between the end of chemistry at 3 and time to do work for chem and Lit...

then on thursdays I would get out of class at 11:15 giving me time to go to work.

By getting a job at disney, the latest I would get out is 10-10:30 and with a 20 minute drive it smashes my current job, earliest I have left in the last month was 12:00 am... gay I know, but that is a 10 minute drive. Working at disney will yield me more time to do school work and better pay and benefits than publix currently gives

The schedule i posted stands, I will be up at 8 am on the 7th to register online before anyone else... I did the same for the spring term... everyone I knew waited until the last minute or didnt feel like doing it online and would rather talk to an advisor the day of class registration.. Do it early, get what you want.. bwhahahahhaha

I seriously, think waaay tooooo much..

Skip the trig - precalc covers it.
Enjoy the chem.

I don't think skipping trig is a good idea. If you want to do engineering, and later take calculus, that trig is really going to help. I didn't have a good trig background going into precalc and it hurt me. Sucks when you are learning new stuff which includes something you never really learned.

It sounds like your CC doesn't offer nearly enough time options for classes. Must be a pretty small school or something. You should see registration at my school. Its ordered based on units completed, and all the good classes are gone by 5:02 am morning of registration (starts at 5am). Its crazy!

Don't skimp on the school. Money is nice, but make school your focus while you can. I am pretty fortunate and don't have to work right now, so all my focus is on school, and it really helps, especially after a few quarters of working + school.

I just don't want to be stuck at home until I am 28....

yea, this term sucks for scheduling, they are really short on professors as well. I have to take trig online due to the fact that chemistry is in the way of a normal class and I don't want to swap to a MWF class and not be able to work due to one frign class.

I will be up at 8 am on july 7th to register online, I did it in the fall for spring and it worked out well... normal people sleep in during the summer, not me...

sigh, I want to be done, already.

X2 and somewhere get the photography in, you need a right brain class to balance it out.

well, I looked at the college catalog, I can't skip trig even if I do a liberal arts switch..

there isn't a Tuesday-Thursday class but there is that one Tuesday class at 6:30-9:30pm, which would work in me schedule and man Id have to be at school for 12 frign hours, by keeping chem it would keep me busy until like 4:30

this semester sucks for higher class schedules

I have to do it this way so I am not massivly behind, I was planning on being done in a year and half, looks like, even if I do this and pass the classes, I am looking at another 2 years... After this year I think I might try and transfer to ucf and pick up classes there so I can work on my major

I am probably going to burn out this term, I see it now.

figured I would drop Literature and leave an easy class until spring so I can not kill myself this term with papers and crap.

Still keeping chemistry but added on a night class for pre calc on tuesdays.

If I didnt have to take the intermediate and pre algebra crap classes, which I both got A's in, I would be in calc by now. I fought them to death when they said I had to take those classes because I scored 1 point to low to go into college algebra. I was almost denied admission because of what I said and the examples I made but they won with the striking blow, if you don't shut up we wont let you in( from the dean of admissions)

I'll show them, I'll make it big and throw it in there faces for holding me back.. BBQ anyone?

anyways the new schedule will still give me 12 credit hours and the photography class, which I want to take now since my friend reccomended it. She is a photography major or w/e and is friends with the professor for the class. She said if I need stuff for the class let her know, she still has it all. Also she said she would come with me to class one day just to establish the fact that me and her are good friends, which could put me in good with the prof.. woot friends rock.

T-minus 13 days until I register

Wow you guys register for classes late! I signed up for all of mine in early April.

German is screwing me this semester. All my other classes are 400 level and most I can take once a week at night or on the weekends. So I was able to group a lot, like I am taking two Sunday morning.

But German is mon/wed/friday 10-11. WTF is that? How am I supposed to work at all?

Math is starting for me next week, mon-thur 3-5, again WTF? That almost kills the day and traffic is a nightmare going both ways. At least its only 4 weeks! Why can't they have it 8-10 in the morning? Or 5-7 at night. Damn them!

I can't wait to get out next spring! School sux's, not having any money does as well.
