Thinking about moving to Maui Hawaii. Thoughts...?

My wife and I are thinking about selling our house here in Arizona and fulfilling a dream we've always had of living in Maui Hawaii. We are finally tired of the heat here in Arizona in the summer! We've been to Maui twice and just love it! We're going back there in August with hopes of planning, and looking for condos and future living arrangements.

We both work virtual in IT, so our jobs are secure, we can live anywhere.

Our kids are raised. We're not that old yet... Still young enough to enjoy something like this. We already know the costs of living is much more there, and accept that as a given. It's worth it to live in paradise.

Have any of you lived there? Any thoughts you care to share would be appreciated. Thanks!

There's a guy here who lives in HI - wait and see what he says.

Maui is great - we love it. I don't know if I'd want to live there though.

The prices of everything there will kill you. There was a new story about a loaf of bread costing $5 and a gallon of milk being $10... My friend is leaving for Hawaii the same day I'm leaving for Mesa to pick up my new car, I'll ask her how it goes...

Yes, the grass is always greener . . .

How often have we thought, while on vacation at some resort . . . "Gee, it would be great to live here . . ."

Well, it would be just as nice to live at Fantasyland or Frontierland, too.

While away on vacation, your life is not normal by any means. You're driving a new car, living in a room without having to clean up and everyone in the building is pretty darn nice to you . . . after all, you're a paying guest. No cooking, no schedules, fewer inhibitions, more food and drink . . . paradise.

As for living here . . . Hawaii is not for wimps. Unless you have a deep love for golf or warm salty water, you'll quickly develop longing for another time zone. BTW, you wouldn't happen to know of any good single level 3.4 bedroom houses in DC Ranch or Troon, would you?

Yea well, people come to Arizona for vacation also remember... we have MORE than our share of resorts here! Talk about no place for wimps, the temp here today is supposed to be 112-115! Dry heat my a$$, so is your oven! Yes I do play golf! I have been there twice and know what to expect...

I gather from your post that you don't like living there? So, why do you? Do you have to for your job?

I've lived all over the U.S. and Arizona is nice compared to most places I've lived. Hawaii is nicer!

California is nice... Full of crazies, people who cannot drive, forest fires burning out of control, crappy ass freeways, foreclosed houses, and to top it all off, people are everywhere....

Well, actually where I live, its really nice. Quiet, nice temperature, and great neighbors.... And hell, there is not that much traffic.

I've enjoyed living here for most of my life, but being born and raised here has made it a comfortable easy fit. I have also observed over the years that more long time residents are not staying and their kids are not overly anxious to return from mainland colleges to set up shop in the state.

The entire state is a "two trick pony" when it comes to the economy . . . tourism and the military. We are also at the mercy of container shipping and air freight. Subway $5 footlongs are $5.99 here, not $5.

Maui has no military installations, but they do have tourism. Wailuku, until this summer, had the highest national price for unleaded regular. Now they're second place.

I'm licensed in Hawaii, but passed the AZ exam and MPRE and will be licensed in AZ shortly. Keeping all options open.

I've lived in California before and while it's not too bad, there's just too many ants on that ant hill! Crime and smog and traffic and lots of PEOPLE!

Tired of BIG cities, traffic and most of all PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!
