Crappy Weekends suck...

I hate bad weekends.

Started off on Thursday evening, when someone jacked my amex card, and charged $2300 in an evening. I got a call from the from their monitoring department saying that I had exceeded my set daily limit... I got then to put a hold on that card, and so that was dealt with.

Friday, I needed to build some servers to fill up my newly leased colo rackspace. Got up early, and went to frys and bought everything I needed at the time to build servers. I built 12 servers from about 9.00AM to about 3.00PM. I made about 3-4 trips to frys in this time to get more parts, and pieces I need to finish the servers. I loaded up my friends truck with all the servers, power strips, switches, and cables I need to get the new rack up and running. At about 4.30PM, I get a message from one of my monitoring system saying that my routing server is down, and that all traffic is down. My friend and I detour to the broken data center and get an idea of what is broken. We pull the routing server, and take it to frys, and get the motherboard and CPU replaced with a new set. We make the trip back to the data center, and rebuild the system, and its not working... Back to Frys, and grab a new power supply. Head back to the data center, replace the power supply, and get the computer back up and runnning. Throw it back into the rack, and start to hook it up when I have an oh crap moment. Theres only one network port on the server.... Drive back to Frys, and grab another ethernet card, and head back to install the ethernet card. Get about an hour into it, and another friend calls... There are people waiting outside my house to party. At this point, I am extremely frustrated with the way things are going. I get the card installed in the server, boot it up, and find that its only a 10/100 card, not gigabit. I decide to hell with it, its working, I can deal with it later.

I head back home, and open up the house for people to go in, and then head back out to the other data center....

(more horrendous weekend story to come... i have to do some work)

So, I head out to the new datacenter at about 8:00PM to try and install some servers, and then take off for the 4th of July party that I am putting on. I get to the data center, and start mounting my switches and power strips, and start to get some servers mounts. I finished mounting all the switches and and power strips at about 8.45PM, and started to mount the servers.... Well, we were short the clips and screws that mount the servers to the rack. We also forgot the bag of ethernet and fiber cables we need to connect everything up to make it work. We hop back in my friends truck, and head back to my house to check up on the party, and to get the lost/forgotten stuff. We get to my place at around 10.00PM, and there are people hangimg out having a good time, and we split at about 10 minutes later, and head back to the datacenter. We take my car, as we had burned 3/4 a tank of gas driving his H2. We finished getting everything mounted, and call it a night. We went outside to find my drivers front tire flat. We throw the spare on there only to find out it doesnt hold air.... We call a friend at the party who is a designated driver, and ask him to being up one of the wheels from my garage with a tire on it to limp it home.... He arrives at about midnight. We arrive back at my house at 12.30, only to find out everyone had left to go to another party, and the only people who were still there were those who were passed out.

Still Saturday and Sunday to come.... Heads are rolling today when I am done at work...

Saturday started off cool, and then started to escilate. I got out of bed and had some breakfast, and made arrangements to finish up setting up my new rack of servers. My friend came over in his truck, and we went off to the datacenter to finish off the servers. We got everything hooked up, and realized we forgot the power cables. Headed off to frys once again to get the power cords we needed. Spent an hour shooting the bowl with the frys guys we deal with. Went to check out, and got a phone call from a hotel my family owns, and the fire sprinklers in one of the suites is broken, and the hotel is getting flooded.... :( So, we pay for the stuff, throw everything in the car, and drive an hour to go deal with the aftermath of the flood.... My friend and I arrive, and the sprinkler is fixed, but there is tons of water damage.... The laundry room is out of service, the suite is out of service, as are 4 regular rooms.... We talk to the fire department, and handle all the paperwork as the discharge of water tripped the alarm, and call water restoartion places, and get the insurance company on the line. We decide to grab food at the hotels restauraunt, and get a call from the mini-storage office that there are some customers who are disgruntled. We head on over there, and they say they had stuff stolen from their storage. We head over to look, and they said that they had a plasma TV stolen, cherry bedframe/headboard, THX sound system, and some TV stands and computer stuff... My friend and I look at eachother, and know that they are playing the BS card. We head back to the office, and they threaten me, as I show them the contract showing that we are not responsible for stolen items, and that they need to have insurance to cover their possesions. They call the sherrif, and my friend and i head back over to the restauraunt to finish dinner. We wait around until the sherriff comes over, and we have a good conversation about liability and that my ass is covered because of the agreement. The sherriff said that she is taking a report to make them happy, and when I asked about what was stolen, the sherriff told me they were missing a playstation and some pots/pans.... So I load up and leave at about 7.00PM, and head back for Sacramento.

Get back, have dinner, and realize I have no money as a result of the numerous Frys trips as well as the deposit on the water repair. Luckily I am at my favorite restauraunt where I know all the people that work there, and know one of the waitresses (dated her, broke up, but still really good friends), so she says "Dont worry about it, and we will square up later...." She made my day!

Headed back to the datacenters, got everything powered up and configured, and left there at about midnight.

Went home, had a drink, and went to bed.... Man, that was the worst part of the weekend....
