Dog eats owner's toe

LAME -- "Roscoe" was euthanized. Poor guy.

http://ktla.trb.com/news/ktla-dog-eats-toe,0,5578321.story

ALTON, ILL. --A 56-year old woman says her miniature dachshund, Roscoe, gnawed off her right big toe while she was asleep.

Linda Floyd says she has no feeling in her toes because of nerve damage from diabetes.

She discovered the toe missing after waking from a nap Monday.

She called her daughter, who phoned 911.

Hospital officicials say not only did Roscoe chewed off the toe and part of the toe joint, he also severed an artery.

A veterinarian says the toe had been bandaged because of a healing hangnail.

That might have somehow attracted the dog.

Roscoe was euthanized because of safety concerns.

It's BACON!

Toe, the other white meat.

The dog may have actually been trying to help. It could be possible that the toe was going south and the dog decided it was time to amputate. Sounds weird but it does happen. I've heard a few stories over the years of dogs finding tumors in their owners. It all starts with the dog constantly sniffing and biting at the area until they went and got checked out. Sure enough they found a tumor in that exact area.

Here's a similar story. http://skyepuppy.blogspot.com/2006/04/dog-finds-masters-brain-tumor.html

Yeah, but don't they have that burger place... forgot the name. A friend is always riding his Harley up the river road and stopping there for a beer and burger. He raves about it, anyway.

Why didn't she phone 911 herself?

"Umm... daughter, there's blood everywhere and my toe is missing, is that normal?
"No mom"...

How sad, probably detected gangrene and was trying to cure it.

Poor hapless hound wanted some Fromunda cheese is all,no reason to kill the bastard.

My bird dogs always manage to chew off bandaids without, however, hurting the skin.

Dee8go 07-09-2008 06:39 AM

Wow, she's a HEAVY sleeper. I can't imagine not waking up for that.

That's nothing....My great grandmama had gout and would drink herself into a deep sleep.

We would, cruel f*cks that we were, stick pins in her red, inflamed toes while she was hors de combat.Great fun it was,she died of a broken hip at 98,I should be so lucky.
