Car ports... Which way should I go?

I'm considering building or buying a car port to cover a couple vehicles. Should I just build it from scratch with treated wood and fiberglass or steel roofing or should I go for wone of the package deals for a steel double car port like this one?

http://www.carportnation.com/forums/modules/pages/images/regular/boxedeve2.jpg

I can do either of them for roughly the same price and I don't mind the labor, probably a weekend to build one from scratch. One thing I'm considering is enclosing it eventually to make a paint booth. I'd probably be able to enclose the scratch-built one easier than the steel job.

Opinions? Thanks!

Noooooo, I believe that would require a permit... I'm just going to put down fresh gravel, probably 3/4 or modified with no dirt.

I'd go for the temporary car port if you're not pouring a slab. You can always wrap it with plastic sheet when you want to paint. I used to make a plastic sheet booth inside my dad's garage when I'd paint to keep the overspray off everything in there. You can easily tape an exhaust fan in a hole cut in the plastic too.

A light misting with a garden hose before you bring the car in and you're golden. ... plus a good water trap in your compressor line.

That's why I'm just putting down 3/4 gravel with no dirt mixed in. Like Chad said, just need to wet it down. Heck, now-days, I paint outside in the grass... Not show quality of course, but it does the job...

I have an 80 gal upright compressor, the tank alone collects most of the water. I also have a filter/separator at the head end of the air network and finally, a filter/separator at the gun.

If your not going to pour a slab just get one of those temporary ones with poles and such.

I think they look like crap though so I would hide it.

Use the 3/4 mix as a 4-6" base and put 2" of 1/4 minus over the top and compact it with a vibrator.

Howdy KarTek
Not that it can help , but I use airplane fusilages(sp?) for carports. But this might help. Google Farm Tech. They specialize in all sorts of buildings for farms.

Evan, These wouldn't be much more $$ than what you posted earlier. They look pretty cool too IMO.
