Trickle chargers?
I am thinking of buying a trickle charger since my car collection has swelled up lately to five. I got a Harbor Freight catalog yesterday and they have a bunch of different ones in there. Has anybody ever bought one from there? Which one? What ones do you have that you would recommend?
Thanks.

I got one called a "battery tender" from West Marine (its suppose to be used for deep cycle batteries). Worked wonders on my boat now and on my car before when I let it sit, and cheap too , under $30.

Great. It appears there are a variety and I wasn't sure what the differences were or what the differences really meant.

Apparently, I have a short or something in my SEC and the battery gets drained quickly if I don't drive it everyday. I'm hoping to figure out where the problem is and fix it, but in the meantime, I'd like to be able to fire it up at will and go when I want to.

I have had a 6v/12v regular battery charger from Sears for about thirty years now. Use it to charge a dead battery or to provide power when I am testing 12v items like my air supply pump (which does not pump) for my 81 300SD. You turn the knob for up to 24 hours for a charge; however, in addition to being a multi-hour charger, at the end of the hours marks it actually turns out to be a trickle charger. Has never failed me and I highly recommend it.

I have a couple of HF trickle chargers for my cars and have never had a problem with them. You can't beat it for the $5.00 price

That sounds great. What is "HF?" Where do you get those?

Battery Tender Plus, about 40 bucks.
I know they have they at the Battery Store, don't know where my brother got mine. Really like it. Lights tell you the status. Self protecting, even if you hook it up backwards, no damage. 2 sets of connectors with a quick disconnect. I have the eyelet set mounted on the SL, and use the clips for the tractor or other things as needed. Very slow to recharge though, a dead battery can take days, but it is a trickle charger so it's probably better on the battery that way.

HF is short for Harbor Freight
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=42292 Currently it is $8.00 but it varies between that and $4.99 accourding to their weekly sales promotions. |
