I was going to bet that the price of diesel does not drop to below $3.75/gal in the next two years. But then I started thinking about the price of diesel on the East Coast versus Chicago, and if I would really care in 2 years about how much diesel costs, and decided to forget it. :)

Thats exactly what I think I will be paying in the next 6-12 months.

The price of oil is being driven up by speculation, as said above and by a number of sources. Like all speculation bubbles it will burst, like the housing market, and like tech stocks, market cycles. Its built like a house of cards so it will come down like one.

The speculation is driven by a number of factors, a weak US dollar/housing/stock market are major ones though.

Remember the big/smart money moves before its on CNN, they were in oil before it went up, and I suspect got out a few days ago, hence the drop.

Now the smart money is bargin hunting, guess what they are buying? Green backs, real estate, and stocks, maybe even car company and airline. But thats off topic.

Anyway figure $30-$40 is added to a barrel of oil because of this, since its somewhat of a wag you can get different numbers depending on the expert.

So the question is, how much will gas cost at $90-$100 a barrel? If my memory serves me I was paying $3ish.

Oil closed today at 129.something!

Even if it was a fluke, I think people might start taking money out of oil and putting it back into other funds, since the drop in price has sent the market way up. Whether it was part of the trend or not, those investors can really make a difference...let's see what tomorrow brings!

But...seems like around here, diesel does not fluctuate in price like gas does...I think stations are charging what they paid and not changing it until they need to refill..which for most stations in town is probably not very often :(

Yeah, what's up with that? I guess the oil companies figure we are used to paying these high prices so they won't lower the price of gas.

I know some folks in the auto repair business, who rent a station from a regional distributor/retailer. As part of the deal, they have to pump his fuel for him.

She told me last month that every morning they have to check the 2 other stations which are in a mile radius and match them. There's a word for that practice.;)

And I think that after 4 weeks or so of steady prices, there may be some of "they're use to it" in keeping prices up. I think once discount retailers who buy on the spot market start paying and selling for less, then prices will start to fall across the board. (at least I hope so:rolleyes:).

Premium at that station hit 4.239 about a month ago and has been stuck there ever since, thru today.

I don't know the facts, but I think the prices are delayed a bit. We SHOULD see some change within the next few days, I would imagine...although I don't know how diesel will fare. There's a Meijer grocery store in town that has diesel for 4.57 so I doubt they'll lower their prices anytime soon! ;) I don't know if it is straight or a blend of bio; I'll be finding out soon though!

As of right now oil is at 128.69! Sad to think that this is "good"

Remember its $128 for August delivery... so if this trend continues the price drop should be a bit delayed.


Diesel dropped from $5 to $4.96 here, hopefully it continues to do so!

Hattie, I'm gonna make you cry. local station by me is lowest around. I bought diesel there Saturday for 4.489. Flying J was still 4.609 this am.
