I know some of you feel the media leans way right.
I tend to disagree, and feel they are in the tank for Obama.

McCain visited Iraq, and it was simply reported.

Obama plans a trip and it becomes a major media PARTY!!!
Do you think any of the "news" footage mighht end up as Obama campaign video?
All the major anchors are accompanying Obama; noone accompanied McCain.
seems fair.

I don't think the media lean left or right. They lean in favor of ratings, or circulation, as the case may be.

One area where Obama seems to get more media attention than McCain is on the subject of flip-flops. Mr. Straight-Talk-Express has flip-flopped on one issue after another, but I don't recall hearing or reading much about it. Obama modifies his tune on a few issues and all we hear about is how he's a flip-flopper. I don't see this as an anti-Obama bias. I see it as the media sticking with a script that says that McCain is a maverick and straight-talker. That script has served their business purposes well, so they will stick with it.

Obama has such a short record that it's had not to look over his latest moves and derive great importance from the, deservedly or not.

McCain has been a weasel for a long time. Anybody who didn't already know that was living in a cave in Afghanistan.

People on the right think the media is controlled by the left. People on the left all swear that it leans to the right. It all depends upon one's perspective.

I think personally the media is nothing more than a dumbed down gossip column. What really gets my goat is how easily the American public gets caught up in the garbage they report as fact.

Example;
I still recall when the Ramsey's had their daughter abducted. Immediately the media turns to speculation on the parents. They basically started with the old asking question initiative then the rest of the media outlets hop on. It's then Nancy Grace beating them up everyday etc...For a period of 4 months I do not believe we heard anything else, even about the war, but at the top of EVERY hour we heard reports placing doubt on the integrity of the Ramsey's.

This has to be going back 2 years ago or so by my memory.

Last week at 10 minutes before the newscast ENDS, there is little mention that the AG has dropped all charges and the Ramsey's are not a legitimate suspect. 2 YEARS !!!!

The problem with FREE speech is that it is NOT free and shouldn't be considered as such. Imagine these poor people being held to the court of public opinion and ridicule when in fact 2 yrs of our funds and energy wasted on the parents.

Instead of reporting the facts about the crime they insert themselves where they frankly do not belong. Then what are the police to do??? They are damned if they do and damned if they do not follow the lead...

I believe the media did the same to that couple from the UK that had their daughter abducted in Portugal.

It seems propaganda and horse***** at the top of the hour and very little if any culpability for these outlets that "hide" behind the amendment rights...

What about the Ramsey's rights? Why shouldn't the news outlets take responsibility for their irresponsible rhetoric? They sure seem to affect many..

Sorry for the rant.

One question? Anyone know of what happened to the US's strategic oil reserves that supposedly was to protect us Americans....the media used to report on that issue for years...

Generally speaking, the media has always been left. It seems rather obvious to me; NPR is the worst culprit. I don't watch Fox, but I'm glad they came along - made other other idiots take notice, at least.

I don't listen to radio news, I don't watch news on TV (except occasionally BBC America - left!), and I don't get any newspapers (they all suck anyways); the internet is where all my news comes from - the Wall St. Journal (right), the NY Times (left) and Drudge (right). All the other news media can pretty much go screw.

And you were right about your McCain/Obama Iraq trip. The other thing I'm sick of are McCain age-related jokes and none about Obama b/c they're afraid of being labeled racists.

The media generaly leans left, except for say FOX.

I think they are all a bunch of nit wits.

So Obama is their man, they will cover him with ferver.

Then why did they report every anti-Clinton rumor as if it were fact? And why did they run with every bit of anti-Gore baloney the GOP put out (remember all that crap about his supposedly claiming to have invented the internet)? And why did they report Bush's pre-war propaganda without questioning its validity? And why was the late Tim Russert Dick Cheney's outlet of choice?

The answer to all of those questions has nothing to do with right versus left. It's all about money, ie. ratings and circulation.
