Seeing the way the compartment is laying, I'm thinking he went airborne, then came down on the nose/tail and flipped end-over-end 'til the pieces just fell off and slowed down the momentum...

He probably died from internal injuries, similiar to blunt-force-trama that you'd experience if your parachute didn't open...internal splat...the autopsy was probably "pretty fluid" in itself...

I think if he were properly strapped in he would have survived. Racers go through wrecks like that all the time and unbuckle and walk away. They do wear helmets and hans devices though.

I imagine a small bump feels pretty major at 200 mph! Or a dip. (in the road not behind the wheel).
