Agreed.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why an intelligent person would put their personal information on display for anyone in the world to peruse. What possible benefit can this offer to the writer?

Additionally, I cannot fathom why I'd be interested in reading anything on either of those sites.

I suppose it goes back to my original premise...........which tends to explain just about everything.

Before becoming an IT Project Manager, I used to help a lawyer do Internet casework investigation on cases he was working on. You can look up all kinds of public records on people depending on the state. Even how much they owe on their house. Criminal records, driving records, divorce and bankruptcy records, civil suits they were involved in and MUCH more.

Insecurity causes people to want to be noticed.

Werd, Howitzer. I heard that Facebook is somewhat more mature though since it started out as an uni site or something.

Oh, I also don't include where I work. Why would anyone do that? Idiots. Also don't put up where I went to school because you can do a search by school. I do have some "look at me" pics, haha! I don't feel a need to set my page to private, though I do find it annoying that others do.

I've got both a MySpace and a Facebook page. I use MySpace almost exclusively to communicate with my sister and see what she's up to (she's 9 years younger than I so there's almost a generational gap), which explains the general lack of "friends" there. It is a little more edgy for lack of a better term. Not much personal info. posted but some. Some Benz diesel videos, though.

My Facebook page is more family oriented and I do keep in touch with some family members, former schoolmates and friends from across the country. Many of our friends from Down syndrome related message boards have pages and use it as the more informal means of communication to talk to a group of "friends" and keep it off the message boards. More personal info. there. I've got nothing to hide. Heck my wife has my log-in info. so that she can respond and update when I don't get around to it.

I don't use either on a regular basis but I do know some people who use it for networking with relative success.
