First car I drove.Most people would be baffled by the planetary tranny but I found it quite easy.
I still keep one for local jaunts,you cannot wear them out.

My Dad broke his arm cranking it. To go up steep hills in Austin he had to drive in reverse. He and his brothers drove it to the Chicago World's Fair and back.

What kind of mileage does it get?

Flat out at 40mph about 22,less so in towns where you pedal between high and low.
You can do better if you replace the buzz coils with a proper distributor with a hotter spark.

A popular treatment was to oxy-cut a 1 inch hole in the intake manifold and place a pivoted cover over it.When one was wailing away at speed one opened the cover with a wire and supposedly saved fuel.There were also Kerosene carbs and other economy devices since the Model T owner was considered to be concerned with economy,thus a ripe target for dubious after market suppliers.

I once drove an old tractor with a spark advance. I felt a kinship with my then-deceased Dad.

Today I loaned my Avalon to my middle kid (we call the car, "Mary Poppins"). She ordinarily drives a car with a standard transmission. I have been thinking about trading cars with her when she graduates from college spring of 09 to give her a nice reliable car and make available a smaller, simpler car to my youngest. Middle kid says, "No way, Dad. My car reminds me that driving is a partnership between me and the car. Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way but I don't feel connected to it when I drive." I understand that, though I can't quite describe why it is so.

I watched the Model T episode of Jay Leno's Garage and it left me wanting one. What's not to like? No oil pump, fuel pump, or water pump to fail. Practically theft proof since hardly anyone knows how to drive one anymore.
