Four cycle engine problem

OK mechanic types. I went to start my emegency generator and found gasoline in the lube oil. What would allow this to happen ? It is a 13 horse 4 cycle Generac 6500. There is a significant amount of gasiline in the lube oil.

When was the last time the oil was changed?

does it have a gas shut-off valve.if so if the gas got left on it could bleed by the needle valve in the carb and flood the engine with gas.drain the oil and refill and run it.

Ditto.

If it has a mechanical fuel pump, the diaphragm can rupture, allowing gas into the crankcase.

This has been known to happen to Cub Cadets with a gas shut off valve. One owner's wife, ran a Cub like that to destruction. Gas is not a good lubricant.

Yup -- my old Vespa did the same thing!
