What should I do to detail my 1992 Volvo 745 wagons paint?

I just bought the above mentioned car not too long age. It's red and it is a single stage. It is a little fadded. not too bad. The women I'm dating said I should just buff the thing. Well maybe, but I don't want to take a chance fo burnig through the paint etc etc. I heard that the potor cable was more safe then other buffers? I think that it might be just becasue of the orbital function, but I'm not sure. Maybe I could do it by hand. I'm concearned with any product that moves paint. I however am a worrier. Feel free to move this to detailing, I did not post there, becasue this is a Volvo.

This stuff restores paint like you would not believe. Go to a auto detailing shop and ask.
