Thumbs up Paid $1.54/gal. for RUG last night!

Only because we spent so much at Stop&Shop for groceries. For every $50 you spend in groceries they give you a $0.10/gal. discount at their S&S gas stations (not at every store) with their loyalty card. They're cumulative but expire after 60 days and you're limited to 20 gals. Otherwise it was like the "good old days" (it's a relative frame of reference ) of filling the tank for $25.

Sadly the promotion ends on 9/4 since at $250-300/week for groceries it didn't take long to rack up some points. No diesel either.

It did actually feel good to fill the tank for the first time in a long time.

I know a lot of other stores offer similar programs. Anyone else take advantage of them?

* Terms and Conditions: Gas Rewards earned at participating Stop & Shop locations only. Net purchase excludes alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, pharmacy items, gift cards, milk (MA only), lottery tickets, postage stamps, prepaid telephone calling cards, Western Union®, money orders, Metro passes and any other purchases prohibited by law. Promotion discount limited to a one vehicle fill-up with a 20 gallon maximum. Total discount cannot exceed price per gallon. Gas Rewards will expire 60 days from date of issuance. All Gas Rewards available at the time of a gasoline transaction will be redeemed. Gas Rewards good for gasoline purchases at participating Stop & Shop gas stations, and cannot be combined with any other offer. Promotion subject to change at anytime without notice. Promotion ends 9/04/08.

Cool Swamp! It's nice to get some kind of benefit for attempting to fill the bottomless stomachs of the family.

I saw that my bank is offering a similar program in conjunction with using their debit card for purchases. I'll have to look into it more thoroughly. I believe they give you gas cards at the end of a given period.

Safeway has a similar program only its not cumulative. but they are priced very competitively, then you throw a $0.10 discount at it and its the best price in town.

the best thing for me is, Safeway is pretty much the only store in my home town, where my Dad still shops. but the nearest Safeway gas station is an hour drive. So i can use his number and use his gas discounts. so i get the discount every time I'm at the gas station.

I think their standard card member discount is $.05/gal for regular and mid and $.10 for super. Stop & Shop is the most convenient for us, but our local one doesn't have a gas station (just happened to pass by one, the closest one is about 10 miles away). Since we do all of our shopping there anyway, it's also competitively priced and we generally only buy what's on sale anyway it was a pretty good little perk. Unfortunately the program will end next week (but they still will offer the card member discount). The one thing with S&S fuel is that it's unbranded. It doesn't phase me but some people won't fill their tank with unbranded stuff.

Well shucks! I guess I'll never get any cheap gas from there. I do believe those items pretty much fill my grocery list. My kids being grown sure changed my shopping habits. It's kinda like being a bachelor again except for the wife part.

That does rule out some important items.

Psst

Insider info;

They are thinking of continuing the loyalty program since it is so popular; and since you can only buy 20 gallons at a time, for they are still making money through offering you the "incentive" to buy more and accumulate more points...before they put a limit I saw a guy get gas for .26 cents a gallon!
