eBay's 21 day hold policy
A friend of mine sent me this, it's his conversation with eBay support people.
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-65523 As a buyer I semi-agree with ebay on this for the added protection, but also see his reasoning about not getting paid- what do you all think? It's not the wording I would have chosen to speak to them with but I think he gets his disappointment with the new policy across.

I'm sure Ebay can come up with a better policy than that. Pretty impressive chat though, 3 people and almost 3 hours wasted.

Trying to have a reasonable discussion with eBay personnel about a policy issue?

As a buyer on Ebay I've had several problems with sellers who get immediate payment and then take 10 days or more to ship. No excuse for not shipping within 5 business days of payment. If your gonna sell you had better be prepared to ship in a reasonable amount of time. I recently made a purchuse for $80: After 14 days days I emailed the seller politely asking for a shipping update, no response. After 17 days, I inquired again, no response. After 20 days I filed a Paypal claim. The seller had ten days to respond, no response from seller. After 30 day, paypal refunded my money, and I left very negative feedback, as was well deserved. 45 days later, I get a package from the seller. Low and behold I got my parts. So now I've got my money back and also the parts I originally purchased. Screw him, I'm keeping all.

21 days does seem a bit excessive. Might 14 not be a bit more reasonable?
What are these "high risk" items anyway? I've been a member since '99, but just recently passed the 100 mark. That policy would've irritated me too.

Anything more than 14 days is approaching negligence. If you can't ship within 6-7 business days after receiving payment, then you shouldn't be selling. That's called taking RESPONSIBILITY!!

Thats why I refuse to deal with ebay. Other than picking up the occasional tag sale item that looks kind of neat. I buy some old Mercedes literature for cheap once in awhile.
Its good for selling cars though, but I have posted before when I do that I use them for advertising and pretty much ignore all there rules. IE I fire them off with no reserve and start at $1, and if it doesn't end where I am happy I tell the buyer to cough up or pound sand. Also local pick up only, cash only. They charge for extra's like a buy it now, which I won't pay. Its like a big tag sale, and I really do hate tag sales.

Isn't that what Froogle is? I don't know. I'm just asking. Google ought to have a decent chance to kick bay's ass, I would think.
