I remember being shocked at hearing several years ago that the "leaper" on the Jaguar was an option you had to pay (dearly) for. I thought that was rather tacky after what they charge for the cars to begin with. They should have just added it to the base cost and not said anymore about it.

I always thought the leaper looked like ****. Perhaps others complained and coerced Jaguar to offer it as an option.

Fashion is cyclic. FoMoCo dispensed with their hood ornaments for a few years in the late Sixties, but they sprang back a few years later, ditto GM. Don't be surprised if tires with non-black sidewall stripes make a resurgence someday.

Oh, I thought it looked okay, but was astounded to hear that it was an option priced somewhere around $200.00. I don't like it that much. Besides, I'd be afraid to own a Jaguar.

Nah you don't pay for them, this is how you get one for free:

Salesman: "Sir just sign here and you are the proud owner of a new XJ8."
Me: "Wait I get the leaper on the hood right?"
Salesman: "Oh no thats $200 extra"
Me: "oh really? (moves to tear up check) I won't buy it without one, and I don't want to pay for it." "we agreed on $70k out the door, not $70,200.
Salesman: "Hang on let me talk to the manager"
Me: "I'll be over at the Mercedes dealer, call me"

Thats how you get one for free.

Jim, why must you insist on exploiting the Native Americans like that?

Me? ME? Why must you DC'ers (politicians, lobbyists, and all the rest of the in crown wanna-be'ers) insist on rooting for the Redskins, who used to be double dippers in the bigot bin...
Hail to the Redskins, Hail to the Chiefs......

Remember George Preston Marshall? Remember when the Redskins were America's "Southern" Team? IIRC, they were the last NFL team to integrate and were getting a lot of heat to do so.

Trivia: Who was the first Negro to play for the 'Skins?

btw I used to be a 'Skins fan back in the Jurgy to Bobby Mitchell days. George Allen: "The future is now baby!"

At least it's a Native American venerated as a hood ornament that graced the front of the vehicle...unlike some African American accessories attached to the rear of pickup trucks as grounding strips...

Sorry...just being weird. Didn't mean to make this a dark thread...(oh crap, I said "dark")...

It was supposed to be a basic install, but now I'm dressing up things as if to enter a car audio show! Just replaced the amp hold-down screws with some chrome allen head cap screws. Dressed up wire temination points, etc.

Yet to do: Find that pesky speed-dependent volume control wire that I disconected from the Becker...it's buried somewhere in the head unit cavity. Also need to purchase an ISO-to-DIN interface to get the CD changer working with the head unit. Finally, I need to isolate some engine noise entering the signal path to the iPod. But for the most part, I just crank the tunes and annoy the neighbors!

Ok...back to our regularly-scheduled thread about hood ornaments...

Touche' Gee.

I can't understand all the uproar over using the name "Redskins" for the Washington football team, either. I also thought the name "Bullets" was quite appropriate as a moniker for their basketball team. If you look at their record, you'll see they certainly are NOT Wizards!

And I graduated from the home of the "Fighting Illini"...we cheered to a carefully-selected white guy dancing on the football field dressed in full chieftain regalia!

Fast forward to the 90's, when I lived in KCMO, and I cheered at Arrowhead Stadium doing the "tomahawk chop" at Chiefs games!

Now my daughter's high school is going pc and changing their mascot from the "Indians" to the "Knights".

Some of my African American friends can't understand the hoopla over Native American mascots...so I dramatized by creating a ficticious college mascot known as the "Fighting Watusis" and drew a sketch of one, replete with war paint, ankle and wrist bracelets and headgear, carrying a spear, wearing a bone though his nose, and running crazily against an unsuspecting prey...

...that got their attention!
