http://www.thenews-messenger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080831/UPDATES01/80831005/1002/NEWS01

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police say a Columbus teenager who was throwing eggs at cars as part of a late-night prank has been fatally shot.
Police say 16-year-old Garrett Burton was with at least one other teenage boy Saturday in the backyard of a home when someone shot him in the head just before 3 a.m. Police have no suspects.

Mine as well, I have suffered from this kind of nonsense once too often.

Many years ago (30-40), kid down the street was with a group messing around and breaking off radio antenna. Kid wound up with a bullet in the hip. Doctors decided was safer for bullet to stay put. Kid grows up and forever carries a reminder to behave. Oh, and shooter was not charged. Headshot seems a bit drastic. Whatever happened to 12 ga. full of rocksalt?

I agree... One of my buddies still has the scars from a load of rock salt he 'earned' siphoning gas out of pickup trucks parked at construction sites

Killing someone over some eggs is rather excessive, wouldn't you think?

It is drastic. It also reconfirms that nothing good happens after midnight for 16 year olds.

Defiling and defacing someone's prized possession is equally bad, doesn't deserve killing but I am sure this man or woman who did it was frustrated beyond point of no return.

The problem is we don't know the extent of the egging, if it was a regular thing, and who was targeted. I remember as a kid a couple cars in front of us a guy slammed on his brakes and jumped out of the car. What happened was kids were throwing rocks over a 15' high "noise control" wall at traffic. Problem for the kids was that someone had cut a door into it and the guy knew where it was...very close to them. He took off and apparently nabbed one of them to hold for the cops. Had the kid been on our side of the wall and he got shot...well, I wouldn't feel very bad at all...just like the egging. I've got a feeling it wasn't just a random act. 3 am? Come on...what kind of people are cruising the streets at that time.

I'm sure he isn't a stiff by now. Rigor mortise should have set and gone. He should have been limp when he died, gotten stiff and then gone limp again.

There was a story on one of the TV e-magazine probably in the early to mid 90's. It was in Ohio, and they called the guy the troll. He was late teens early 20's, mentally retarded and lived at home. Some of the high school students tought it was fun to drive by and shout at him. One day he had a .22 rifle and shot a round to two their way. One of them was hit and died latter. They had one of his neighbors being interview. The said something like' well the traffic had died down since then'.
If the car was moving, then something hitting you would distract you. This might be enough to put you in a perilous situation.

He got shot, but so far there has not been an established motive.

Kids don't realize until it's too late. One indiscretion can be life changing a few years down the road. It could mean the difference between a great job or working at a temp service all your life... as one of my wife's potential hires doesn't even understand right now.

WGAS?

That's ok. One less competitor for those that have a clean record.
