I'd get a leather jacket with a light fleece lining, or something with Thinsulate.

For work - Carhartt!

Howdy kmaysob,
Look at C.C. Filson.

I like Patagonia. Maybe not so great for work outside, but their gear lasts a long time (think Mercedes).

I have a Patagonia fleece lined jacket that I purchased in 1989. It's a little worn around the cuffs, but other than that looks great.

For workwear, try Dickies.

I have had this one for about 5 years and I can strongly recommend it. Very warm and comfortable but also very light weight. And it launders perfectly, comes out looking like new with no pilling. I think it looks best in the Olive color. http://www.landsend.com/pp/ClassicSquallJacket~132235_59.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::ADB&CM_MERCH=IDX_00001__000000004 3&origin=index
Patagonia is great also. I had a similar one of theirs for a long time. But it didn't launder quite as well. Both have a lifetime guarantee. LandsEnd probably a little less expensive.

I was going to recommend the same jacket.

Lands End Squall jacket. Perfect for what you are looking for. It is the most versatile jacket I own.

Can't beat the price at $59.50 either.

This is the one I own, Synchilla: http://www.patagonia.com/web/us/product/product_focus.jsp?OPTION=PRODUCT_FOCUS_DISPLAY_HANDLER&catcode=MAIN_FA_US.CLOTHING_GEAR.MENS.JACKETS &style_color=28135-078&ws=

Similar to the Land's End, but much more expensive... all in the name, or?? :)

Made in Columbia with a hidden stash pouch.
Hmmmm...maybe you ought to check that pouch.

X2 I still have Patagonia pants jackets and shirts that I bought while in the Army....and I'll tell ya that was a LONG time ago:D they still wear and feel like new despite years of abuse. IIRC Pat's from that era were made from recycled pop bottles.

The Swede 09-14-2008 05:39 PM

Yeah, Pat gets too political. I dunno, whatever works for 'ya. :)

Patagonia must be really proud of their jacket.

You get what you pay for I use the puffy wear during the winter with the guide parka, I think the guide parka is $400 and the puff pants and jacket are more than that...never been wet or cold though.

The Swede 09-14-2008 06:17 PM

I'm not into clothes much, but I appreciate "things" that are well made, durable and last a long time. Mercedes, Maui Jim, Patagonia...
