Effective 16 September, eBay will be making big changes to the pricing structure for Fixed Price listings in many categories. Fixed Price listings are considered to be part of the eBay "core", as are auctions, and get better exposure to general searches on eBay than listings in the "Store Inventory" format.
Under the new structure, the insertion fee will be $0.35, regardless of item price, with listing durations up to 30 days. This is a big difference for higher priced items; it currently costs $4.00 to list a $500 item for a week. They will also offer a "Good Til Cancelled" option to automatically renew a listing
The kicker is that the final value fees for items sold will, for most categories, now be substantially higher. Some categories will have different final value fees than others.
In short, especially for higher priced items, it's going to cost less to "go fishing", but you'll pay more if you catch something.
Some categories are not covered by these changes, e.g., eBay Motors vehicle categories, and a number of Business and Industrial Capital Equipment categories.
