Big Stock Meltdown Today

I hope everyone's investment portfolios didn't take too much of a beating.

Ouch.

It looks like I'm going to hold off on that Gulfstream for a while. Damn turbulent markets.

Seriously, I just keep telling myself that over the long term, I'll make money. Its tempting to dump it all into something more stable during times like these.

My best investments are listed below...

I HAD an investment... From the performance of the Latin America fund, I believe South America has sunk into the sea... You can't lose 10% per day for very many days... well actually...

My 401k is sucking right now, so I am not putting much money into it now, and I am going to start putting my money into other investments that will make money, even if it is 1 or 2%.

This is not over

What is worse than the market going down is the plight of AIG. Since their credit rating has been downgraded again, it is now low enough that policy holders can demand their money back as the company is no longer a good risk. Expect it to go down like the Titanic!

Approx 6000 Merrill employees were told to come in to the office this past Sunday. As they came in, they were told to clean out their desks and go home!

Lord knows how many LB folk will still have a job on Monday

Add these poor bastards to the people laid off by JP MORGAN CHASE when they absorbed Bear Sterns and the 8% reduction that Morgan Stanley just did and New York City is starting to resemble Allentown, Pa back in the '80s

Here in DC Hewlett Packard bought EDS (Ross Perot's old company) they are going to lay off 23000 employees of the combined firm!

Welcome to 1929!

On a good note oil is sliding past 90 bucks a barrel

Remember the good old days when if oil dropped stocks went up?

My 401K did OK because I gave up and had moved everything to
bond fund and money market last week.

Lost in wife's 401K and college fund.

I feel a little bit fortunate for putting extra money into paying down my mortgage over the last couple years. But still - by the time you hear the bad news, its too late to do anything. With mutual funds it takes an extra day to complete your transaction, during which time it can drop more.

I try to buy as much as I can of the things I've been watching when the market goes down like this.

The value of my house ain't what it used to be either, but I'm not bailing out of it either! If I had the money, I'd go out and buy ANOTHER house about right now. I like buying when everybody else is selling. That's when you get the best deals. As long as you buy quality, you'll do well in the long run.

I have a building lot and house, my investment is doing quite well thank you. Almost sold it last weekend.

One of these days I'll get back into that stock market thing.

Yup, unless you need the dough in the next couple years . . . this is the "buy low" thing you often hear about.

I remember a stock broker I know advising me a couple of years ago that I should take all the equity out of my house and invest it in the stock market. Can you imagine doing such a thing?

Fortunately, I am more inclined to take money out of the market to pay down my mortgage than to do the reverse. I can live in my house if it's paid for, even if the value goes down.
