Are forums an outlet for displaced anger?

The percentage of frustrated, angry people I encounter in forums does not match that of everday life. What gives?

is it the anonymity of the web?

please describe "displaced anger" according to your ability, and how you arrived at your conclusion.

If so, you'd be adding to the ranks of the "angry" that you talked about.

perhaps its a case of mistaken intention behind words, but people appear to be less graceful... or quick to respond with adverse negatives and condescending remarks

How about the fear of being punched in the face? I can call you a d1ckless jerkwad and there is little you can do about it except call a mod to give me an infraction. If I said it to your face, I might be swallowing teeth.

good call.

so the nature of man is truly an ugly, heartless, war-mongering beast.

well, that about sums up 200 years of american history.
