Google's new phone!

Pretty cool! For $180 I might get that when I retire my 3 year old Razr in May.

I am now officially old.

I just want a phone, with buttons on a keypad, to make telephone calls.

I don't want a television, an MP3 player, or a game console. The only "apps" that I want are Caller ID and a contact list.

I send and receive a very limited number of text messages.

I use a Bluetooth wireless headset, and would not be without it.

The market will decide if this phone sells like the proverbial hotcake. The "open source" Android OS is "geek bait" since most phone consumers don't care about what the OS is.

Don't all smartphones have access to Google? My Treo does, and can sync with Outlook enterprise servers, which the G1 can't . . . yet.

Is it true . . . no headphone jack on the G1, but you have to use a USB adapter like on the Razr?

I've been a long time user of various Treo Smartphones, the current one being a 755p, so I would be the opposite of the "one job, one device" ideology.

Phone works fine. When I add a folding keyboard to the mix, I don't have to lug along a laptop for 90% of business travel documents and notetaking.

With a 4gb miniSD card installed, I don't need an iPod for music or video, but I do have to bring along a charger.

With the apps, I can check airline schedules; get Google Maps (but not GPS); check e-mail, kill time at the airport with video games and puzzles, and check eBay for deals on parts.

Those applications are pretty much the sum of the Treo or some Winders Mobile smart phone. My personal applications are Email--then phone, formerly email --- phone which is why I use the Blackberry. Android OTOH handles Email-phone--with a robust GPS which is what I've been looking for but not until it comes out with a querty. Android is open source so most carriers will be seeing it soon, unlike the iPhone.

I thinkthe smaller Treos already have Google GPS built in, with a QWERTY keyboard.

I used to be a Treonaut but after too many issues that interfered with my normal use I moved to the Blackberry, nothing against the Treo but the applications and software I use the Treo was too unstable and slow. but if I change companies that may change again since our company is more BB driven.

RE GPS, have you checked out the Android GPS app's? hardcore man.
