Is there a way around flash-based banner ads ?
Hey guys,
More and more web pages I see, more and more of them have flash content. Not that I really object, but I really want to eliminate the flash ads (and auto-playing movies) to save bandwidth/shut my computer up. Is there a way to disable this stuff ? I am running winXP and normally browse in firefox 3. I have no problem with the adsense ads that msshop uses 1) b/c its supporting msshop, and 2) b/c the bandwidth requirement is low. Any ideas ? -John

Yeah, there are multiple ways of blocking them.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm Thats the best way I have found to deal with them.

On Firefox 2, I'm running Adblock Plus and Flashblock extensions.

.
I have used the idea mentioned above for a few years now. Re routing the most common add sites to " localhost " or your own computer gets rid of most adds. It definatly speeds web browsing, and lowers bandwidth use. RichC .
