Extreme Makeover - Panty Edition

OK, I got sick of the pantry being the way it was: Small shelves, no lighting, unfinished... The plan was to completely finish it off and install sliding drawer/shelves.

So I ripped everything out. The furnace return had never even been covered since the system was installed in 1996...

First thing I did was box the return, smooth and paint the walls. I also installed a light fixture:

Next, I located, cut and installed the stand off boards for the shelf sliders. I gave the boards a run through the router and cut radius' on the ends to make them look a little classier...

Meanwhile, I scratch-built 3 pine wood shelves. Step 1, gluing and filling of joints:

Step 2, finishing with poly and attaching bottoms while the E300 supervises...

And it's done! Top side:

Bottom side with baseboards:

And some sliding shelf action. The rails are supposed to be good for 100# each but a shelf full of cans seems to be pretty much the limit! I still have to do a little shimming to make the shelves slide perfectly. Now I can get some cabinet space back!

All in all, I'm really pleased with the turnout and it only cost me about $50 for the materials.

Beautiful job Evan. Really nice upgrade to your pantry.

BTW, I thought this thread was going to be about underwear.

"Extreme Makeover - Panty Edition"? Nice way to draw in the viewers.
